The two-seat electric sports car has been making all the headlines in India in the last few days after its price announcement
In this post, we take a look at all the details of the newly launched MG Cyberster electric sports car. MG has taken things to the next level with its luxury range of products. These include the M9 premium MPV and the Cyberster. It is selling these via its exclusive MG SELECT outlets around the country. In essence, MG wants to grab new customers and establish a rather premium brand image. For now, let us check out what the electric sports car is all about in our thorough review.
MG Cyberster Detailed Walkaround Tour
I recently got the opportunity to spend some time with the MG Cyberster. Hence, I experienced what it feels like to drive, interiors, features, performance and the styling. On the outside, it has to be among the most stunning EVs on sale at the moment. The iconic scissor doors are reminiscent of the iconic MGB roadster. Additionally, the flowing curves highlight the impressive aerodynamics to aid acceleration. On the sides, the 20-inch alloys look elegant and flamboyant.
At the rear, it gets Arrow LED turn indicators, a sharp tail and an aerodynamically designed diffuser. Also, the talking point is the soft top, which can be operated even while driving. In fact, all these elements accentuate the low-slung drop-top silhouette of this EV, which is what most people will get drawn towards. I can promise one thing: there’s no way you won’t see turning heads everywhere you go with a car like this. Hence, the overall appearance is mighty enticing.
Interior and Features
On the inside, the two-seater EV gets wrapped in eco-friendly leather materials for that soft-touch finish. Furthermore, the layout is driver-centric with 3 screens, which makes the car look modern and tech-savvy. The broad demarcation between the front two seats looks cool. I feel there are a lot of buttons and screens, which could be a bit overwhelming for new users. But I am sure that with time, they will get used to it. Also, the fit and finish is quite impressive. The seats are well-contoured, which will grab you during hardcore driving. I felt there aren’t all that many storage spaces inside the car. Overall, I really appreciate the way it is designed with a combination of sportiness and luxury. Some of the top highlights include:
- Triple Display Setup – 10.25-inch Touchscreen Infotainment and Two 7-inch Digital Panels
- Dual-zone Automatic Climate Control
- PM2.5 Filter
- Steering-mounted Paddle Shifters for Regenerative Braking
- Sustainable Dinamica Suede and Premium Vegan Leather Upholstery
- BOSE Audio System with Noise Compensation
- Level 2 ADAS
- 360-degree Parking Camera
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Electrically Adjustable Seats
- 3-spoke Flat-Bottom Steering Wheel
- Soft-touch Materials
- Soft-top
Specs and Driving Impressions
The MG Cyberster boasts the Industry’s Slimmest Battery Pack with a capacity of 77 kWh and a thickness of 110 mm. That is quite critical for a car to be sporty and fast. It powers two electric motors for an all-wheel-drive configuration. This results in a total power and torque output of a whopping 510 PS and 725 Nm, respectively. For those who are interested in range, the MIDC-certified number is 580 km on a single charge, which is decent. That slippery body ensures a low drag coefficient of 0.269, which makes it cut through the air.
| Specs | MG Cyberster |
| Battery | 77 kWh |
| Power | 510 PS |
| Torque | 725 Nm |
| Acc. (0-100 km/h) | 3.2 seconds |
| Range (WLTP) | 580 km (MIDC) |
This has to be the most interesting aspect of this car, and there are many reasons for that. To start with, the EV boasts 50-50 weight distribution, something only the top sports cars in the world have. Also, due to being a low-slung sports car, the centre of gravity is pretty low. This lends it immense stability, particularly around the corners. Another thing to mention is the powerful Brembo 4-piston brake callipers. In the most aggressive driving mode, the claimed 0 to 100 km/h comes up in just 3.2 seconds, which is more than many Porsches out there! That should inform you about the capabilities of this car on tarmac. I rode it on the Buddha International Circuit and was thoroughly impressed by its power.
Price
In addition to the performance, styling and amenities, another key talking point is the pricing. MG has set a retail price of Rs 75 lakh, ex-showroom, for this gorgeous electric sports car. Now, while there aren’t too many two-seat convertible roadsters in India, the Cyberster is certainly significantly more affordable than something like the BMW Z4, which costs around Rs 95 lakh. Hence, MG wants to attract customers with many unique strengths. Having said that, even with this price point, only the affluent personalities across the country will actually be able to afford it, making it a rare sighting on our roads. Let us see how well the customers embrace it.
