EVs are gaining more and more prominence in our market with each passing day. We see carmakers introduce new models consistently. These range from mass market to high-end premium automobiles. In that sense, the Indian EV industry is still at an infant stage, which makes things really exciting, and the growth potential is immense. In fact, there are some concrete EVs lined up for launch in the coming months. Let us glance at the top 5 of these.
Top 5 New Electric SUVs To Launch in India
Maruti eVitara
Let us commence this list with the first EV from Maruti Suzuki, the eVitara. The electric SUV has already been showcased in many international markets in the last few months. It comes with a rugged and sporty exterior styling with tons of modern elements. On the inside, it bears new-age amenities along with tech and convenience functionalities to pamper the occupants. In fact, even the specification details have been announced. It comes with two battery pack options – a 49 kWh or a 61 kWh. These result in a single-motor 2WD and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration. The power and torque range from 142 hp / 189 Nm to 172 hp / 189 Nm (2WD) to 181 hp / 300 Nm (AWD). The ALLGRIP-e technology distributes torque where it is needed the most, and the ground clearance is a healthy 180 mm.
Tata Sierra EV
Next up, we have the Tata Sierra EV on this list as well. We have seen the near-production concept at the Auto Expo, and the test mule has been spotted testing in India on multiple occasions in recent times. Note that there will also be an ICE counterpart of the Sierra EV to cater to a wide range of potential customers. In terms of design, it will carry the modern design philosophy from Tata Motors, including a full-width LED light bar running across the fascia of the SUV and sleek LED headlamps. The overall boxy silhouette of the SUV lends it an imposing road presence. On the inside, it will offer all the gadgets and gizmos to pamper the users. More details regarding the powertrain, range, etc., will emerge in the coming days.
VinFast VF 6
The next vehicle on this list of the top 5 new electric SUVs to be launched in India in the coming months is the VinFast VF 6. Note that the Vietnamese car marque has set up a manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, India. It plans to produce EVs for domestic, as well as international markets. Also, the pre-bookings for the VF 6 and VF 7 are already underway for a token amount of Rs 21,000, which is fully refundable. It bears a distinct design, which will make it stand out in the crowd. At the front, it gets a slim and curved LED strip with the VinFast logo in the centre. The main headlamp cluster is positioned on the extreme edges of the bumper. On the inside, it boasts a minimalist layout with all the tech and convenience amenities. We will get to know the specifics about the battery and performance at the time of launch.
VinFast VF7
Now, the VinFast VF7 will be the larger sibling of the VF 6. They will share a lot of elements. Nevertheless, there will be some additional equipment on the VF 7 along with perhaps enhanced performance figures. In any case, the design at the front fascia will only be slightly different to the VF 6 with the LED lighting on the headlamp housing. Furthermore, it will be a bit bigger in terms of dimensions in comparison to the VF 6. However, the interior will carry on the minimalist design philosophy with loads of new-age tech and convenience features. In any case, the VinFast electric SUVs will be unlike any other car on the market with regard to appearance.
Maruti eEscudo
Finally, there will also be the Maruti eEscudo in Maruti showrooms soon. We recently spotted it testing on public roads with minimal camouflage. For all we know, it is, essentially, the electric iteration of the Maruti Grand Vitara, which might be available in 5- and 7-seat configurations. It is also clear that it will be sold via the Maruti Arena dealerships in India. The launch, in the ICE guise, will likely take place on September 3, after which the electric version will be available. On the inside, the overall design layout will be inspired by the regular Grand Vitara. However, we are still unsure about the kind of battery pack and performance it will offer. These are the top 5 new electric SUVs to be launched in India.
