Tata Nexon EV Owner Buys Mahindra XUV9e (1)

The Indian automobile giant has been doing exceptionally well on the sales charts for EVs at this price point

In this post, we witness what a Mahindra XEV 9e buyer has to say about the ownership experience. We know that Mahindra has bifurcated its EV division under two sub-brands – XEV and BE. The XEV 9e and BE6 have found thousands of buyers within a record time. That is a testament to how well the customers have embraced these INGLO platform-based electric SUVs. For now, let us check out what the owner has to say about his EV.

Mahindra XEV 9e Buyer Shares His Ownership Experience

Q. What car did you have earlier and what made you choose the XEV 9e over its direct rivals like the Harrier EV?
A. I have been using a Tata Nexon EV prior to this. Thereafter, I was waiting for the Curvv. But when it was launched, it felt a bit congested from the inside. Then I was even interested in buying a BYD car. However, I didn’t find it wide enough for my family. When the Mahindra XEV 9e was showcased, I was impressed by the space inside and its cabin. Without informing my family, I booked the XEV 9e immediately. Once I came back home, we decided on the colour as well.

Q. How has the real-world range been compared to the official claim?
A. Although I haven’t noticed it specifically, I believe I have been able to get a range of around 500 km on a single charge.

Q. What’s your daily charging routine like – do you use home charging, or rely on public fast chargers?
A. I generally charge at home, but I also used a public charger when the home charger was not working. With the fast public charger, the battery was able to charge in around 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Q. How’s the experience with the triple-screen dashboard? Is it actually practical for everyday driving?
A. I really like it. In fact, my daughter truly loves it. Some features are really nice, particularly for kids, such as the voice commands with Alexa. For instance, my daughter can sit in the rear and still give a voice command to complete any task in the car.

Q. Have you used the ADAS features, and how confident do you feel while relying on them in city or highway traffic?
A. I mostly drive in the city, where I use a lot of rear components of ADAS. For instance, during reversing, there are often instances where people or bikers appear suddenly. In such cases, the car automatically applies brakes, which is a great thing to have.

Q. The XEV 9e has a bold, futuristic design. How do people react to it, and how do you feel driving it every day?
A. The road presence of this car is really good. People often do a “thumbs up” when they see the car. In fact, my relatives, who didn’t know that I had purchased a new car, were pleasantly surprised to see this EV.

Q. What’s the cabin experience like – in terms of space, comfort, and practicality for daily use?
A. Even my friends say that the interior, features and space of this car are extremely good. I was happy to see that it is a 5-star safety-rated car because that is the main aspect for me for my family.

Q. Are there any tech features that genuinely improve your driving experience, or feel like gimmicks?
A. No, these are not gimmicks. We know that Indian roads can be quite unpredictable. In such scenarios, features like autonomous emergency braking, particularly while reversing, are a boon. While driving on the expressway, I really like the Lane Assist feature. The EV is smoothly able to maintain lane driving even if the driver is slightly distracted.

Q. How’s the boot space and overall practicality for family use or weekend trips?
A. I have not done any long trips in the car yet. I wish to take it to the mountains. But due to the current weather conditions, I have decided to delay it a bit. I want to travel the country and that is why I have purchased this car. In the coming weeks, I will definitely take this out for long journeys.

Q. Have you faced any issues, glitches, or visits to the service centre yet?
A. I have not had any problems with the car or service visits. I handed over the car in the morning, and it was returned to me in the evening.

Q. Looking back, would you still make the same purchase decision today, or would you go for the arch-rival Tata Harrier EV?
A. I have already booked another XEV 9e. My daughter also loves this car. I like its space and cabin. Therefore, I have decided to buy another XEV 9e.

Q. How does it feel to own an Indian eSUV that not only competes with but beats global luxury brands?
A. Honestly, I didn’t think that Mahindra could make a car like this. It is truly praiseworthy what Mahindra has been able to achieve. It has features which even the BYD EV doesn’t have.

Q. Which tech features have genuinely impressed you – Auto park, MAIA voice assistant, Sonic Studio by Harman Kardon, AR-HUD, ambient modes by A.R. Rahman – what, as per you, is the biggest game-changer?
A. Honestly, I have not used the Auto Park function too much. The HUD feature is really helpful as the driver doesn’t have to take his/her eyes off the road. It displays things like speed and navigation. Also, the sound system is unlike anything I have ever used before. I would give it 10 points out of 10.
