In a rather horrific occurrence, a famous EV caught fire in the middle of the road. EV fires have been a serious issue in recent years. We have seen many electric two-wheelers and four-wheelers in flames, not just in India, but across the globe. Now, we know that even the ICE cars catch fire. The internet has been buzzing with the visuals of this incident in the last few hours. The video clip captures a white-coloured electric SUV parked on the side of the road. There are massive flames emerging from the body along with heavy smoke. In fact, one can barely make out which car it actually is. In any case, the news reports mention that this mishap took place somewhere in Vijayawada. The exact reason for this is not known. Still, the specifics in the video look chilling. Thankfully, no injury has been reported in this case.
Now, it is not easy to douse EV fires. The reason is simple. The chemicals inside the EV battery actually aid the fire. As a consequence, water is not the ideal solution to put out the fire. In fact, in many countries outside India, there are special protocols to deal with EV fires. Also, one peculiar thing about fires in electric cars is that even if the flames go out once, they can reappear soon. Hence, one can not be sure when the fire is completely out. That is something to keep in mind while dealing with such situations.

I must mention here that there are tons of cases of EVs catching fire on the roads. There can be many reasons for that. That is why it is important not to jump to any conclusions based on isolated incidents. Apart from that, it is crucial to understand that not all EVs suffer from this issue. These are the rarest of rare cases, which happen with traditional cars. The only aspect to remember is to gather knowledge about how to deal with these situations. Let us hope that there aren’t all that many cases like these.
