Nissan Tekton Spotted Alongside Maruti Grand Vitara

The upcoming mid-size SUV from Nissan aims to take on the Korean and Japanese rivals in this highly competitive space

We recently came across some exclusive spy pics of the upcoming Nissan Tekton, with the Maruti Grand Vitara parked parallel to it. The mid-size SUV space is excessively crowded. There are models from just about every major mass market carmaker in this space. That makes things really challenging for any newcomer. I am sure that Nissan realizes this and will come out all guns blazing. The sales are slated to commence in 2026. Nissan will manufacture the Tekton in Chennai for domestic and global markets. For now, let us delve into the details of the latest spy media.

The images capture the two SUVs parked side-by-side in what looks like an empty parking lot. As expected, the Nissan Tekton is wrapped in heavy camouflage. Firstly, we get a nice look at the rear profile. Here, the SUV embodies a roof-mounted spoiler, a traditional antenna, an upright bumper and LED taillamps. Interestingly, I also like the muscular and squared wheel arches with distinct alloy wheels (or steel wheels). These factors lead us to believe that this might be the mid-spec version. Similarly, the front section is neatly concealed under the camouflage. Nevertheless, the LED headlamp cluster is barely visible and the upright stance is evident. All in all, the SUV looks at par with the Grand Vitara in terms dimensions.

Talking about the latest amenities, we are yet to know the details about the interior and cabin. Still, it won’t be wrong to assume that the Japanese carmaker will equip the mid-size SUV with all the latest bells and whistles. That is something extremely necessary if it wants to stand any chance against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Maruti Victoris, etc. Apart from that, no details are available regarding the powertrain and transmission alternatives either. Finally, pricing will also play a key role in deciding its fate in a country like India. More details will emerge in the coming days.

Having tracked the Indian automotive landscape for over 15 years, I can confidently say the mid-size SUV space leaves zero room for half-measures. The Tekton will need to deliver not just competitive features but a compelling value proposition from Day 1 if Nissan wants to regain relevance in India. Localized manufacturing and global ambitions are encouraging signs, but in a segment ruled by Creta, Seltos and the strong Marutiโ€“Toyota alliance, Nissan must be absolutely flawless with powertrains, pricing and after-sales support to make a real dent.
