Did Tata Motors Just Copy Ford For The New Sierra Teaser

The Indian auto giant is prepping the launch of the Sierra SUV in our market

In a rather interesting occurrence, the new Sierra teaser by Tata Motors evidently bears an uncanny resemblance to a certain Ford Bronco teaser from 5 years ago. Tata Motors is one of the biggest carmakers in India. In the last few years, it has achieved immense success on the sales charts. In fact, to put things into perspective, it even once overtook Hyundai Motor India on the monthly sales charts, emerging as the second-largest car brand. It offers products in all major segments along with multiple powertrain options, including ICE, CNG and electric. For now, let us take a look at the details of the upcoming Sierra, which is slated to debut on November 27, 2025.

Did Tata Motors Just Copy Ford For The New Sierra Teaser?

The latest Tata Sierra teaser has been doing the rounds on the internet. It showcases the yellow-coloured butch SUV in the wilderness. The SUV is being driven on a dirt track with an open space near the mountains. However, the most prominent aspect of this video clip is the depiction of horses running next to the SUV. Furthermore, the transition encapsulates the old Sierra transforming into the new model. Apart from that, the narration mentions the return of the legend. Now, we know that this refers to the original Sierra, which was on sale in our market back in the 1990s. All this seems right until you see the video by Ford for the Bronco from 5 years ago.

The netizens were quick to catch the extensive similarities between the two videos. Even the visuals for the Bronco had almost identical settings of the mountains and wild area with horses running adjacent to the SUV. Finally, we see the transition from the old Bronco to the new one. Interestingly, even it is shown in the yellow colour. The storyline of the legend returning is common in both videos, too. Therefore, it is not all that clear why Tata would just copy the entire teaser when it has the capability of producing engaging visuals. In any case, the internet users saw through this instantly and expressed their opinions about this entire saga.

My View

I must admit such instances can occur in the automotive world, but they are not all that common. In today’s digital age, it is almost impossible to get away with something like this. People have the resources to look for anything from even a few years ago. Hence, if a company tries to be cheeky, it could backfire. I can only hope that this won’t be such a huge issue, which will ruin the image and excitement about the upcoming Sierra. Still, we will get more clarity in the coming days.

As someone who’s tracked product positioning and brand storytelling in the Indian market for over a decade and a half, I find this teaser controversy particularly surprising. Tata Motors has built strong equity in design originality over the last few years, so a Bronco-like promo feels oddly off-brand. That said, the Sierra nameplate has immense emotional pull, and the final product matters far more than the marketing misstep. I’ll be watching closely to see whether Tata turns this chatter into momentum when the SUV finally breaks cover.
