Renault Bridger Concept Compact SUV Revealed

The French auto giant plans to expand its footprint in India with a distinct and rugged compact SUV

Updated on 11.03.2026 – Renault has taken the wraps off its new upcoming compact SUV, the Bridger. The overall design of the concept showcases a butch stance and an imposing road presence. At the front, we see unique LED headlamps and LED DRLs along with illuminated RENAULT lettering, rugged bumper with solid skid plate and a relatively clean appearance. The side section embodies the Defender-like boxy silhouette with squared wheel arches, elegant aero dual-tone 18-inch alloy wheels, creaseless door panels, high ground clearance (200 mm), dual-tone black roof and short overhangs.

Finally, the tail end contains a side-opening tailgate, a bootlid-mounted spare wheel and a sturdy bumper. The SUV will certainly carry a distinct and strong profile. In terms of the interior, the compact SUV benefits from the R-GMP architecture. The boot space stands at 400 litres, the largest in the segment. This platform allows for multi-energy solutions. Hence, the Bridger will be offered in petrol, hybrid and electric avatars. In this manner, the SUV will entice buyers with varying needs. The launch of the Renault Bridger is slated for the end of 2027. Until then, we will keep getting more details.

Renault Teases Made for India Sub-4-metre Bridger, Jimny Rival?

Originally published on 09.03.2026 – The Renault Bridger sub-4m concept SUV has been teased for the Indian market. Renault has been trying aggressively to grab more market share in India. To achieve this, it wants to diversify its portfolio range to cater to a wide range of potential buyers. We know that the new Duster is one of the key products to accomplish this. Furthermore, with a sub-4m SUV, it wants to pull in even more customers. For now, let us check out what we can expect from the upcoming SUV.

Renault Bridger Concept SUV Teased

The official teaser showcases the silhouette of the rugged SUV. Even though there isn’t much to deduce from the teaser, a few elements become quite evident. For instance, the compact dimensions combine well with the overall tough demeanour. The upright stance, the muscular body panels, the roof rails and the boxy silhouette are the key attractions of the exterior styling. Although not clear, it looks like the boot lid contains a spare tyre, similar to what we see on the likes of the Mahindra Thar and Maruti Jimny. This indicates that it might be a tough and sturdy SUV in the price range of the Jimny.

Now, since the details are scarce, we can only assume that it could carry the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol mill good for 100 hp and 160 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. This mill already does duties on other Renault models. Furthermore, this engine can be paired with both manual and automatic transmission alternatives. However, the key aspect to watch out for is whether the Bridger will be offered with a 4WD configuration or not. Let us keep an eye out for more details over time.

In my view, Renault clearly understands that Indiaโ€™s appetite for compact SUVs with a rugged image is only growing stronger. A sub-4-metre off-roader with distinctive styling could help the brand tap into a niche currently dominated by lifestyle SUVs like the Thar and Jimny. However, in our market, pricing and practicality matter just as much as capability. If Renault manages to blend authentic SUV character with aggressive pricing, the Bridger could become an interesting disruptor in the entry-level off-road segment.
