New 3-row Electric Maruti MPV

The EV space in India has experienced a huge boom in the last few years and this trend is likely to continue going forward

We will soon have a new 3-row electric Maruti MPV in our market as early as the end of this year (2026). The largest car marque in the country already sells the e Vitara as its sole electric offering. Clearly, it is late to the party with carmakers like Tata Motors, Mahindra, MG and VinFast already offering tons of models to cater to the needs of customers with varied preferences. Nevertheless, Maruti Suzuki is gearing up with new products to slowly capture back that EV market share. For now, let us take a look at the details of what to expect from the new electric MPV.

New 3-row Electric Maruti MPV

Codenamed YMC, the new 3-row electric Maruti MPV will be based on the HEARTECT-e platform, which also underpins the existing e Vitara. Planned to commence production at Maruti’s Gujarat plant, the YMC will measure around 4.5 m. With the flat floor and long wheelbase, the interior space will be aplenty. That is what will lead to installing the 3-row layout for enhanced practicality and space. Furthermore, the interior cabin will be full of the latest tech, convenience, connectivity and active/safety amenities to pamper the occupants. This will include aspects like large touchscreen infotainment, digital instrument cluster, Level 2 ADAS, powered and ventilated seats, connected car tech, panoramic sunroof, premium materials for upholstery and much more.

In terms of battery and powertrain versions, we will most likely witness two options – a 49 kWh and a 61.1 kWh battery pack, just like the e Vitara. The larger unit could bear a range of around 543 km on a single charge. In the e Vitara, this configuration makes a decent 172 hp and 193 Nm of maximum power and torque, respectively. At a later stage, there could also be a Toyota counterpart to this electric MPV. The EV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric, Kia Carens EV, VinFast VF MPV 7, BYD eMAX7, Mahindra XEV 9S, Tata Safari EV, etc. However, its biggest attraction has to be its affordability and the wide service network. More details will emerge in the coming months.

Having observed the Indian EV market evolve rapidly over the last few years, I believe Maruti Suzuki can no longer afford to stay on the sidelines for too long. What makes this upcoming electric MPV particularly interesting to me is its focus on practicality and family-oriented mobility, something which still remains relatively unexplored in the mass-market EV space. Marutiโ€™s biggest strength has always been affordability, service reach and understanding of Indian usage patterns, and those factors could work strongly in its favour here. In my view, if priced aggressively, this electric MPV has the potential to bring a whole new set of buyers into the EV ecosystem.
