The moment you want to drive enthusiastically, the typical AMT “head-nod” and shift lag become apparent. If you mash the throttle to execute a quick, sudden overtake on a single-lane highway, there is a distinct, frustrating second of hesitation while the gearbox figures out the downshift. But once you get used to driving it, you know when the gear shift is about to happen and you can soften throttle response for a few moments to make it feel smoother, but that happens once you have driven it at least a week or more, it is an acquired skill if you are into cars and driving, you feel the engine.
2. Enthusiasts Will Miss the Old 4-Cylinder Punch
If you are upgrading from an older-generation Swift, the performance of the new 3-cylinder engine might disappoint you. It puts out 80 bhp and 111.7 Nm of torque, which is a step down from the old K-Series four-cylinder motor. While it feels perfectly peppy under 2500 RPM in the city, the top-end performance on the highway feels flat. It is fine once the car is on the roll, but you slow down or stop at a signal, you feel a very dim 3-cylinder hum even in your seat. It is not as bad as the Wagon-R 3 cylinder, but if you are enthusiast, you will notice it.

While the front seats are incredibly supportive and wide, the rear seat experience is a bit of a letdown. Legroom is strictly average, and because of the Swift’s sweeping roofline and dark interior theme, the rear bench can feel a bit claustrophobic for taller adults on long road trips. Even its own sibling Baleno feels much roomier at the rear seat.
