New Toyota Hilux Launch

The Japanese carmaker has launched the new Hilux lifestyle pickup truck for our market

The new Toyota Hilux has finally been launched with a slew of exterior upgrades and interior amenities, while retaining that timeless off-roading capability. Hilux is among the two popular products in this niche space in India, in addition to the Isuzu V-Cross. India is not a typical market for a vehicle like this. Having said that, many off-roading enthusiasts have opted for these pickup trucks in the last few years. The bookings are open now and the deliveries will commence from the 2nd week of August. For now, let us delve into the details of what the new Hilux entails.

New Toyota Hilux – Price

The new Toyota Hilux is available in three variants – 4×4 VX (AT), 4×4 GX (AT) and 4×2 GX (AT). So, there is no manual transmission option. The prices start at an attractive Rs 31.99 lakh and go up to Rs 36.69 lakh, ex-showroom. These are a bit lower than the Fortuner 4×4, which makes it a great choice for adventure seekers.

New Toyota Hilux – Specs

Note that the new Toyota Hilux comes with the same powertrain and transmission options as the outgoing model. Hence, it draws power from a potent and familiar 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine, which is good for 204 PS and 500 Nm of maximum power and torque, respectively. As mentioned previously, the sole transmission option is the automatic gearbox, which sends power to all four wheels in the upper trims. Also, off-roading drivers will appreciate the H4 and L4 range with Electronic Differential Lock, 80-litre fuel tank and Downhill Assist Control for treacherous off-tarmac surfaces.

Yatharth Chauhan, Managing Editor

The Toyota Hilux has always been more about capability than outright luxury, and this update builds on that philosophy with a more premium cabin and additional technology without compromising its legendary toughness. While the mechanical package remains unchanged, the refreshed interior and enhanced feature list make it a more attractive proposition for buyers looking for a lifestyle pickup. In a market where options are limited, the Hilux continues to stand out as one of the most capable off-roaders money can buy. It will be interesting to see whether the competitive pricing and added creature comforts help Toyota expand the appeal of the Hilux beyond hardcore adventure enthusiasts.
