The latest teaser of the Tata Harrier says that it will get a new 2.0 Litre KYROTEC diesel engine. The SUV will also come with multi-drive modes and a possible All-Wheel-Drive system.ย

Tata Motors is teasing its upcoming cars regularly. The updated Tigor is going to launch on 10th October and every day, some of the other teasers are uploaded. The same is the scenario with the upcoming Tata Harrier. Now, the latest teaser of Tata Harrier shows that it gets a new 2.0 Litre KYROTEC diesel engine. Also, the SUV will come with multi-drive modes and a possible AWD system. Tata will unveil the Harrier mostly in January 2019 at the Mumbai Marathon. Read more about the Tata Harrier, here.

Tata Harrier Engine

The KYROTEC engine is basically a Fiat-sourced diesel engine. It is rebadged and revised 2.0 Litre Multijet diesel engine. The main difference is that the tuning is set as per specific features equipped in Tata models. The engines will come with a variable geometry turbocharger.

Now you ask, what is Variable Geometry Turbocharger? It is an advanced mechanism which allows the ratios of Turbo to changed as per the driving condition and also the condition of roads. Basically, it reduces the lag in the turbocharged engine and gives more torque.

Tata Motors also said that Tata Harrier’s engine will be paired with a Terrain response system, which had led us to believe the possibility of AWD. However, we believe only the top-end variants might feature AWD system.

Lastly, the SUV will come with Multi-Drive modes too. We can expect the ECO, CITY, and SPORT driving modes on the Tata Harrier. The SUV has been spotted testing at the Kari Motor Speedway in TN for fine tuning of suspension and steering wheel.

In the last teaser, we got to know about Harrier’s off-road ability. Tata Harrier uses the OMEGA ARC platform. This platform uses localized parts and cheaper materials on the JLR D8 platform, which is used in Land Rover Discovery, Jaguar E-Pace, and Range Rover Evoque.

Currently, we just have the confirmation of the diesel engine. There are no details of a petrol engine as of now. We expect it to come with a turbo petrol engine too, as most of its rivals in the range offer one too. Most likely, it will come with BS-VI engines, which are set to kick in starting April 2020.

Along with the petrol engines, there are speculations about a Hybrid Harrier, too. It might launch a year later after the launch of Harrier, but there might be chances. Speculations about Harrier having a 7-seater variant is also going around. Most probably, that will rival against the Mahindra XUV 700, Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
