In the latest reports, we learn that Tata Hornbill Micro SUV is going to launch in India by 2020. Along with Tata, a lot of other companies like Maruti Suzuki and Datsun will also launch their Micro SUVs starting next year. Hornbill will compete with KUV100 and Maruti Suzuki Ignis.
A lot of carmakers have accepted the concept of Micro SUVs in India. Gradually, the idea of SUVs over hatchback and sedan is developing as it is bigger in size and is as comfortable as a sedan. As the growth is increasing, the size of the SUV is also decreasing. We now have compact SUVs, sub-compact SUVs, and micro SUV. Yes, there is only one Micro SUV in the market which is Mahindra KUV 100. It gets the tall-boy SUV stance with a body of a hatchback. So, brands like Tata, Maruti, Hyundai, and Datsun are developing their Micro SUVs for their launches after a year or two. Tata Hornbill is one such Micro SUV which will take some elements from the Tata Nexon and Tiago.
Tata Hornbill – Launch Date
As per the latest reports, the Hornbill will launch in 2021 in India. Before that, the Tata 45X premium hatchback will launch in India.
Tata Hornbill – Price In India

Taking Tiago and Nexon’s price in mind, we expect the Hornbill to be priced starting at around Rs 4.5 Lakhs up to Rs 7.5 Lakhs easily. It will be just placed above Tiago.

We expect it to have the same engine specifications as Tiago. So, it might use the 1.2 Litre Revotron and 1.05 Litre Revotorq diesel engine. The petrol engine produces 85 BHP of power and 114 Nm of torque. The diesel engine produces 70 BHP of power and 140 Nm of torque. The petrol variant is going to get 5-speed MT with optional AMT for transmission and so does the diesel variant as well.

Tata Hornbill – Competition
Coming to the competition, it will go against the KUV 100. Currently, the only Micro SUV in India is the KUV. With Hornbill, Micro SUVs from Hyundai, Maruti Suzuki, and Datsun are also going to launch. So once these are launched and the segment is filled with some cars, there would be good competition. Micro SUVs usually would have competition from hatchbacks because of the same price range. Mainly, people who want to have an SUV type feeling while driving but want a small car for the traffic would opt for this segment.
