New Maruti Wagon R 2019 offers the option of an AMT gearbox on its top-spec trim, while its competitors Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago don’t.
The next-generation Maruti Suzuki Wagon R will make its debut in India on the 23rd of January this year. What essentially is going to be the third generation iteration of this compact hatchback in our country, comes with a complete overhaul across all its major parameters. Going by a recently leaked information, we now have confirmation that the new Wagon R is going to offer, for the first time, a choice of two different powertrain options. Its base variants will continue to offer the same 1.0-litre 3-cylinder option while the mid-spec variants and the top-spec trims will get the Swift’s 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder engine. This compact hatchback, even in its previous generation was offered with the option of an AMT gearbox in select variants. And this continues with its third generation update as well.

The new Maruti Wagon R 2019 comes with the option of a 5-speed manual gearbox along with a 5-speed AMT unit. The interesting thing to note here is that this AMT gearbox is available with both the 1.0-litre and the 1.2-litre trims. Not only this but unlike its competition, the Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago, the Wagon R will be offered with an AMT transmission even in the top spec trim.

As a result of this, buyers who are opting for an AMT gearbox can will be able to have their new Wagon R with features such as a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, rear parking sensors with camera, electronically foldable ORVMs with electrical adjustment, rear defogger and washer with wiper among others.

The prices of the new Maruti Wagon R 2019 is expected to fall in the range of INR 4 lakh to INR 6 lakh. Its primary competition will include the likes of Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago.
