Maruti Wagon R EV real-world conditions driving range revealed!

Maruti WagonR EV will get a driving range of 130 kms in real-world conditions. The brand’s first EV is scheduled to launch in India by 2020.

At the 2019 Future Mobility Programme, Maruti Suzuki showcased the WagonR EV and Solio Hybrid. The manufacturer is keen on bring Electric vehicles to India, the first one scheduled to launch in 2020.

Autocar reveals some fresh details about the manufacturer’s first EV in India. The Maruti WagonR EV will deliver a real-world conditions driving range of 130 kms, which is higher than many electric cars currently in sale in India.

Maruti has officially begun the testing of WagonR EV in India. It is based on the JDM-spec WagonR and not on the current India-spec one.

As said, the Maruti WagonR EV will deliver 130 km riding range, which will be in the regular city traffic at regular speeds. Unlike the conventionally powered cars, the driving range will further dip on highways.

If the driving range in real world conditions in 130 kms, the ARAI-tested range will definitely be much higher. In a similar case, the ARAI-tested driving range of Mahindra E-Verito and Tigor EV is around 140 kms each. In real world, the range goes down to 80-90 kms.

For daily city travel, the 130 km range seems decent. Ofcourse, with heavy acceleration and high speeds, the range will further dip.

Maruti WagonR EV will support the standard AC charger as well as a DC charger, making it flexible. The standard charger will take nearly 7 hours to fully charge the battery and the DC/Fast charger will charge up to 80% in just One hour.

It also gets two-charging slots, separate for AC and DC chargers respectively. Moreover, with the growing infrastructure for the EVs, the charging issues will be resolved to a great extent.

Through our spottings of the EV, we have seen that it is slightly bigger than the current WagonR. It gets a fully digital speedometer that shows the riding range, speed, battery status, previous ride data and such advanced telematics.

Since Maruti will place the WagonR EV as a mass-market product, we expect the prices to range between Rs 7 Lakhs to Rs 8 Lakhs (ex-showroom).
