Identify diesel, petrol, CNG and electric car with new colour codes

Colour Code Sticker For Fuel Type image

The colour code sticker includes blue, orange and grey colour stickers for various fuel type and the main motive behind this is to identify vehicles and curb pollution.

The new safety norms, emission norms and more regulations are taking into place and government initiate to curb pollution is raising concerns to most car manufacturers. With a new scheme of identifying the fuel type of cars using a colour code sticker, the government urges the states to imply these rules as soon as possible.

The Union Road Transport and Highways Ministry have asked all the state transport authorities to feature hologram based colour code sticker for identifying Petrol, CNG, Diesel fuel types. Supreme Court of India have accepted this proposal already.

A light blue coloured sticker will be used for all the Petrol and CNG fuel type, an orange colour sticker will be used by diesel vehicles and grey sticker for other fuel types. Electric vehicles won’t be needing it since they will carry a separate green number plate. It was in the year 2018 that the Supreme Court accepted this order and the whole idea behind this is to identify the fuel type of vehicles.

The Ministry issued the advisory on Wednesday, and said, “It has been mandated that the background colour for the self-destructive type chromium-based hologram sticker shall be orange and it shall be light blue for the petrol and CNG vehicles.”

The hologram sticker will sit on the bottom left side of the windshield, on the inside. It will have details like registration number, laser-branded PIN, registering authority, engine and chassis number. It was in the year 2018 that the Supreme Court accepted this order and the whole idea behind this is to identify the fuel type of vehicles. This idea was to be first implemented in Delhi but got delayed.

The road transport ministry is in the process of amending the rule and to make the process of fixing the colour sticker by the dealers end it would take some time. To implement this new rule, it may take a little time to procure the stickers.
