The eKUV100 is expected to see a price ag of Rs 12 lakh and Maruti Suzuki WagonR EV is its direct competition.

The crossover design, big cabin space and the tag of Mahindra are all you get when the KUV100 comes in mind but the car never really pleased the audience. Now Mahindra is shifting its focus to introduce electric KUV100 in the market which will shift focus from the already established e20 Plus.

Since the e20 Plus doesn’t really suffice the safety norms of dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, front seat belt reminder, high-speed alert system and among others so the upcoming Mahindra electric KUV100 will take its place.

The eKUV100 spotted is in its final stages of development and a couple of production-ready cars have spied doing the rounds at night. The car will receive both DC (fast charging) and AC charging sockets and are placed at the front fenders.

It can be noted here that the final specifications of the car may change knowing the current EV trend which is booming. The car will get different powertrain than the e20 Plus and will clock a good range on one single charge. The components used in the car will also be different than seen on the eVerito.

Under the hood, it will carry a 40 kW motor and a healthy torque of 120 Nm is expected. A 16kWh battery is likely to be on board being the source of electricity and a range of 120 km is expected when it is launched. Hopefully, Mahindra offers a strong battery which offers an improved range so the city commute becomes easier.

For the eKUV100, Mahindra has also tweaked the suspension and steering system to comply with the additional weight. This is because of the battery addition which will increase the kerb weight of the car by 60-80 kgs. The car will retain its comfy cabin and boot space as they remain unchanged.

Talking about some design changes on the exterior, it will carry just a few changes to differentiate from its petrol counterpart. The expected price range of the car is Rs 12 lakh and once launched it will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki WagonR EV.

In other news, Mahindra has decided to ditch the 1.2L diesel engine of the KUV100Nxt post BS6 emission norms. This is because of the high cost of upgrading the diesel engine which will eventually increase the cost of the car which has to be further burdened by the buyers. The manufacturer will continue with the bigger engines found on XUV300, Scorpio, Bolero and XUV500 and Alturas G4.
