Reports say that Tata Tigor EV will be introduced for private buyers this year and will offer a longer driving range of 200 kms, against the 142 kms offered in the current version.

Tata Tigor EV is offered to the cab fleet operators and the EESL staff as per the contract. The Tigor EV for cab operators now starts at Rs 9.96 Lakhs up to Rs 10.30 Lakhs (ex-showroom), after seeing the recent GST price cut.

This version of the Tata Tigor EV offers a driving range of 142 kms, as claimed by ARAI. In real-world driving, the range could come down to around 90-100 kms, which would actually not be appreciated by the private buyers.

Reports say that Tata is working to offer a longer driving range of the Tigor EV. For private buyers, the EV will be offered with a range of 200 kms, 58 kms range more than the current version.

Currently, Tigor EV uses a 16.2 kWh battery pack that produces nearly 40 BHP at 4500 RPM and 105 Nm of peak torque at 2500 RPM. It comes with a single-speed transmission and only goes up to 80 km/hr as the top speed.

Tigor EV is available with a DC 15 kW fast charger which takes about 90 minutes to charger up to 80%. A normal charger takes around six hours to reach 80%. The fast chargers will be available at public charging stations.

The EV is available in three trims – XE, XM and XT. Features onboard include LED tail lamps, climate control, height-adjustable driver seat and Harma-sourced Bluetooth audio system on the mid-spec trim. The top-spec XT gets alloy wheels and electric ORVMs.

Meanwhile, Tata is progressing towards the EV trend swiftly as it has declared its EV roadmap for the next few years. It has confirmed that the Nexon EV will be launched in early 2020 with a lithium-ion battery pack.

Also, Tata is going to launch the electric version of its upcoming premium hatchback, Altroz. The Tigor EV will be updated with some new features and a longer driving range. The fourth EV model still remains unknown.
