Tata Harrier rivals with the likes of Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Mahindra XUV500 and the Hyundai Creta.

Several images of the all-black edition of the Harrier has been surfacing online. Now new reports suggest that upon launch it will be given the nametag, ‘Tata Harrier Dark Edition’.

Starting off, the Tata Harrier Dark Edition gets an all-black colour scheme also called as Atlas Black. The same treatment has been given to the front and rear skid plates too. Also, now the car sits on 17-inch Blackstone alloy wheel and will get grey headlamp inserts.

The cabin of the SUV also follows the same theme just like the exteriors. It gets a Blackstone Matrix Colour and the upholstery has been done in Benecke-Kaliko leather and given a contrasting shade. The faux wood on the dashboard gets replaced by a textured matte-grey panel. The same treatment has been given to the door handles and also to the door pads which are now perforated.

This special dark edition will be available in the top-end XZ variant. And the pricing will see a premium of Rs 20,000-30,000 above than the premium models. Also, for those looking for a sunroof, the manufacturer provides that as an additional accessory which comes at Rs 95,000.

The features onboard include a large 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system which supports connectivity features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also gets 8-way driver adjustable seat, cruise control, engine start/stop, auto headlamps and among others. Considering its competition, MG Hector and upcoming Kia Seltos the features are not much but the coming months will tell if Tata Harrier can still pull out maximum sales than its rivals.

Things remain unchanged under the hood as it continues to get the same FCA sourced oil burner. The 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine is capable of producing 140 bhp at 3,750 rpm and a peak torque of 320 Nm at 175-2200 rpm. Tata Motors uses variable geometry turbocharger that provides torque to all four wheels. Transmission option includes a 6-speed manual gearbox.

In other news, Tata is all set to bring the 7-seat Harrier to the Indian shores by early 2020. The car will be longer in dimensions and will get more power under the good. It will churn out 170 bhp as seen on the Jeep Compass and a peak torque of 350 Nm only and the engine will be BS6 compliant. Transmission options will include both a 6-speed manual and an automatic gearbox. The latter will also follow on the 5-seater Harrier too.
