Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Likely to get BS-VI Diesel Engine by January 2020!

The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios has been launched with a BS-IV diesel engine as of now but it will get the BS-VI version by January 2020. The petrol engine is already BS-VI compliant.

Hyundai launched the brand new Grand i10 Nios this week for a starting price of Rs. 4.99 lakhs and goes up to Rs. 7.14 lakhs, ex-showroom. Now, Hyundai has launched the Grand i10 Nios with two engine options – 1.2L petrol and diesel engines – carried over from the Grand i10. Both the engines can be had with a 5-speed manual gearbox or 5-speed AMT. Now while the 1.2L petrol engine in the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is BS-VI compliant, the diesel engine is not.

The 1.2L diesel engine in the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is currently BS-IV compliant and the BS-VI version of this engine will likely come out in January 2020, a couple of months before the April 2020 deadline set by the government for the BS-VI emission norms. Hyundai is still in the process of developing its diesel engines to be BS-VI compliant and while the company hasn’t said anything about the pricing of the BS-VI compliant diesel Grand i10 Nios, we are expect a marginal hike over the current price. ย

The Grand i10 Nios retains the overall stance of the regular Grand i10 but thatโ€™s where the similarities end. The Grand i10 Nios is based on a new platform and its longer and wider than its sibling with a longer wheelbase as well. The face is dominated by a large cascade grille which are flanked by angular DRLs on the edges of the grille. The headlamp units have been completely redesigned with a swept-back look and projector lamps. The fog lamp housing in the bumper too has been redesigned. At the rear, the car gets new tail lamps and bumpers.

The interiors have been completely redesigned too. It gets a new 20.25cm touchscreen infotainment system which is the largest in the segment. Gone are the round AC vents as there are new horizontal AC vents below the infotainment screen. It also gets a new automatic climate control unit, a new steering wheel and a 5.3-inch MID with digital speedometer. There are also some textured hexagonal motifs on the dashboard and the door panels which particularly look very quirky.

Hyundai has also announced that they would be discontinuing their 1.4L and 1.6L diesel engines, come the BS-VI emission norms. Instead, they would be sourcing a 1.5L, diesel engine from Kia Motors to be used in their cars in two different states of tune. The 1.2L petrol engine in the Grand i10 Nios produces 83 bhp and 114Nm of torque while the 1.2L diesel engine produces 75 bhp and 190Nm of torque.
