Currently, the Renault Triber currently only gets one engine-gearbox configuration but it is expected to get the AMT along with a BS-VI engine by early next year.

Renault launched the Triber in India last week at a price of Rs 4.95 lakh, going all the way up to Rs. 6.49 lakh, ex-showroom. Now, while Renault had said at the global unveil of the Triber earlier in June that the car would be launched with both a manual and an AMT gearbox, it missed out on the latter at launch.

Currently, the Triber is only available with one engine-gearbox configuration and that is a 1.0L, three-cylinder petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. However, Renault has said that they would introduce the AMT in the Triber by early next year, perhaps at the 2020 Auto Expo. Also, the engine in the Triber is currently BS-IV compliant and with the launch of the AMT version, Renault will also debut the BS-VI engine in the Triber.

The 1.0L, three-cylinder engine in the Triber produces 72 bhp of power at 6,250 rpm 96Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. The Triber is based on the Kwid’s CMF-A platform and is a very unique car in its segment. It looks like an MPV, has elements of an SUV in the form of body claddings but is sized and priced like a hatchback. It is also quite a handsome looking car.

The face is dominated by the large, three slat, U-shaped grille with the Renault logo and the tapering rectangular headlamps smoothly flow out of the grille. The silver skid plates and the body claddings add a lot of character. In profile, it looks much like a scaled down version of the Lodgy. There is a large glass section there is a nice little kink at the C-pillar which looks quite cool. The rear of the car is comparatively simple with horizontal two-part eagle beak tail lamps.

As for the interiors of the Renault Triber, the dashboard layout is quite simple and neat. Thereโ€™s nothing quite fancy about it but it works well. The Triber also gets a touchscreen infotainment system, dual-tone color options and nice silver accents on the dashboard and steering wheel. However, the standout feature about the Renaultโ€™s interiors have to be its three rows of seating and the huge practicality it offers. The third row is decently spacious.

When the Renault Triber AMT is launched early next year, it is expected to bear a premium of about Rs. 50,000 over the manual variant. The Triber does not have a direct rival in this space but it goes against the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and the Maruti Suzuki Swift as all these cars are priced quite similarly.
