Ford recently introduced a Thunder edition to boost Ecosport sales.

With the upcoming BS6 emission norms, several car manufacturers are testing their models with the upgraded engines and the recent of the lot is the Ford Ecosport. The images were caught on the outskirts of Chennai.

Ford Ecosport comes in three engine options and out of all only the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine will be BS6 compliant. The 999 cc turbo petrol unit will be too costly to upgrade and hence will be replaced by the 1.2-litre turbo petrol unit seen on the Mahindra XUV300.

Like other manufacturers who have ruled out a statement that they will ditch diesel engines from their portfolio post new emission norms, Ford stood on its ground on developing the oil burner.

Most of the sales of Ford contributes via diesel engine as they are more efficient and refined. The 1.5-litre diesel engine produces 99 bhp at 3750 rpm along with a peak torque of 205 Nm at 1750 Nm. Transmission onboard includes a 5-speed manual gearbox and ARAI certified mileage comes out at 23 kmpl.

On the other hand, the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine produces a total of 121 bhp along with a torque of 150 Nm. It comes with 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter unit. The ARAI certified mileage stands at 17 kmpl and this engine is the most powerful in its segment.

Ford Ecosport Thunder Edition

Ford has recently brought in the Thunder edition to the Ecosport for both petrol and diesel engine. The new edition gets 17-inch alloy wheels, blacked-out rear mirrors, dual-tone bonnet, blacked-out front grille and decals on the side for the aesthetic appeal to the compact SUV. The interiors now receive cognac accents over the front seats and the centre console.
