The BS-VI version of the Mahindra XUV300 petrol will have 20 PS more power and 30 Nm of more torque than the current model and was bench-marked against a Ssangyong Tivoli.

Recently, a camouflaged test mule of the Mahindra XUV300 was spotted testing and interestingly, it was seen alongside the SUV its based on, the Ssangyong Tivoli. We believe this to be the BS-VI compliant petrol model of the XUV300. The BS-VI petrol powered XUV300 will be more powerful than the BS-IV model and it will also be the first Mahindra to be updated to be updated for BS-VI compliance.

Currently, the Mahindra XUV300 is powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine which puts out 110PS and 200 Nm of torque. Once this engine has been updated to be BS-VI compliant, the engine will produce 20PS of more power and 30 Nm of more torque, making it the most powerful SUV in the segment. The 1.5-litre diesel engine will also be updated to meet the BS-VI emission norms which produces 116PS and 300Nm of power.

This test mule of the XUV300 was seen alongside the Ssangyong Tivoli. The Tivoli was perhaps being used as a benchmarking standard. The Tivoli facelift which was recently unveiled internationally, is powered by a 1.5-litre turbo petrolย engine which puts out 163 PS of power and 280Nm of torque. The facelifted model comes with a sharper bumper and a new grille and headlamps.

It also gets a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the inside and the analog instrument cluster has been replaced with a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel. Considering the fact that the XUV300 is still a fairly new car in India, these updates wouldn’t make it to India any time soon.

The BS-VI complaint models of the XUV300 are expected to hit the showrooms by November this year. The turbo-petrol model will be launched first followed by the diesel engine. The BS-VI models will most certainly be more expensive than the current models. Meanwhile, Mahindra is also prepping to launch a Hyundai Creta rival for the Indian market which has been codenamed the S204 and will be based on the longer version of the Tivoli called the Tivoli Air.ย
