The iconic British Scomadi Scooter is set to enter the Indian markets by May 2018. The scooter looks quite similar to Lambretta but comes with a price tag of around Rs 2 Lakh. In European markets, Scomadi models are one of the most selling scooters.
Scomadi Scooters, barring their resemblance to the old lovable Lambretta, is going to be launched in the Indian market. Reports further suggest that the scooter has already been through homologation procedure. In India, it has joined hands with Pune-based AJ Performance, a one-stop facility which offers bespoke customization, maintenance, and sourcing of parts for luxury and performance cars. AJ Performance is lead by Alexander Johnson, a popular figure in high-end car circles in western India.
The brand produces Lambretta GP-styled models like the Turismo Leggera 50, TL125, TL200, Turismo Technica 125 and TT200i. It once manufactured its scooters in collaboration with a Chinese establishment but soon moved operations to Thailand in its quest for higher quality standards. The CBUs of the scooter will be imported from Thailand, till Scomadi starts it production over here.
Scomadi will introduce its TT 125 variant in India. Buyers can pick a colour option from the available stock or order a customized unit, which will take roughly three months to arrive from the time of placing the order. Scomadi will be available at Rs 1.98 Lakh (ex-showroom Pune). After its launch, it will be the costliest scooter in India after Vespa. The scooters that are shown in the image are the TT200 and the India-bound TT125 will sport identical styling.
The TT 125 is powered by an Aprilia-sourced 125cc engine, made in Italy. It comes with an air-cooled engine that runs a Delphi fuel-injection unit. Scomadi claims an impressive output figure of 11hp at 7,300rpm, which put 125 CC scooters like TVS Ntorq and Honda Grazia to shame.
Scomadi TT 125 features two hydraulic preload adjustable shock absorbers with coil springs and a gas-assisted anti-dive linkage system. At the rear, it gets a coil spring with a four-step preload adjustable shock absorber. It also gets a dual channel ABS. It gets a retro-styled single-pod fully-digital instrument cluster featuring. An engine-kill switch and hazard lights are standard. It has a DRL housed within the rectangular full-LED headlight which gets a classy chrome surround. The tail-light is an LED unit as well and it glows for the full time.
The bookings have started officially at AJ Performance’s shop in Pune. As it comes with a heavy price, Scomadi will hardly make any difference. However, it will be a huge hit amongst the scooter lovers, because for them the old days are back.
