New Toll Policy

The government wants to make the entire toll crossing experience smooth and more affordable for the road users

The Indian commuters will be able to avail of the benefits of the FASTag annual pass starting August 15, 2025. This announcement came from the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari. This step marks a huge relief for the road users in terms of convenience, time saving and affordability. With this, the private car owners will be able to access toll plazas for a period of 1 year or 200 trips, whichever is earlier, for an amount of Rs 3,000. Those who travel across tolls frequently will understand how cost-effective this is.

FASTag Annual Pass To Be Effective From August 15

For reference, this pass used to cost Rs 10,000 previously. Clearly, the car owners will end up saving a significant Rs 7,000 every year. Also, when using the annual pass, the average amount per toll passage comes out to be just Rs 15. Once activated, the annual pass will allow free passage of private car/jeep/van at designated National Highway (NH) and National Expressway (NE) toll plazas. One can purchase the annual pass via the Rajmargyatra app or the NHAI website. You won’t need to buy a new FASTag.

Your existing FASTag should be pasted on the windshield and linked to a valid Vehicle Registration Number. Remember that this pass is valid for non-commercial vehicles only and is non-transferable. Failing to comply with these two rules will lead to the deactivation of this pass without any notice. Another thing to keep in mind is that for point-based fee plazas, a round trip will count as two trips, while for closed tolling fee plazas, one pair of entry and exit counts as one trip.

Furthermore, by activating the Annual Pass, you consent to allow Rajmargyatra to retrieve your registered mobile number from the issuing bank for sending SMS alerts and other modes of communication. It must also be mentioned here that an Annual Pass is not mandatory for everyone. Those who don’t feel the need for it or travel rarely across toll plazas can continue to use the existing FASTag by recharging it only when they need to. Finally, if you have made 200 trips before the end of the year from the date of activation using an Annual Pass, you can re-purchase it. These are all the things you need to know about the FASTag Annual Pass.
