The new Honda electric sports car looks very similar to the Honda Sports EV concept. It will likely use two electric motors to produce 296 bhp and 600 Nm of torque.
According to some new reports that have surfaced on the internet, a leaked patent filing document shows that Honda is prepping for a new electric sports-car. The car has a low-slung coupe profile and is speculated to have about 296PS of power. Also, the new sports coupe are in-line with Honda’s previous electric car concepts.
Honda filed the patent with the Japan Patent Office in December of 2018. As seen in the leaked images, this new electric sports car looks very similar to the Honda Sports EV concept car that was showcased at the 2017 Tokyo Motor show. In fact, if you look closely, you will also see similarities with the Honda E prototype – perhaps a family look that Honda is trying to maintain for its electric cars.
On looking closely, you will notice further differences from the Sports EV concept. The cabin has been pushed forward which gives the car better proportions and looks more like a mid-engined coupe. The Sports EV concept on the other hand had a long hood with a short rear overhang. The leaked images also reveal that this Honda has flared wheel arches and given by the form and stance of the vehicle, its certainly going to be a sports coupe.
Nothing is known about the technical specifications of this electric sports car yet but it will most likely come with two electric motors and a floor-mounted battery pack. Honda recently unveiled the ‘e’ city car with 35.5kWh battery pack producing 148PS of power and 300Nm of torque, driving the rear axle only. The electric sports coupe is expected to use the same setup with two electric motors on both the axles, thus resulting in 296PS and 600Nm of torque.
The Honda electric sports car might debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show but it is more likely that Honda will preview the car at the Tokyo Motor Show scheduled later in October as that’s Honda’s home ground. Whenever its coming, we just hope it turns out to be an exciting one!
