India’s highest selling hatchback crossover, the Hyundai i20 Active gets minor updates. There has been no official announcement regarding this, however, the image gallery on Hyundai’s website shows a slightly altered i20 Active.
Hyundai i20 Active is the South Korean carmaker’s only hatchback crossover model in India and is performing quite decent in the market. i20 Active received the last update in 2015 and now it gets some minor updates. This also indicates that the company has no plans of giving a facelift version to the car. On the boot lid of the car, a new ‘Active’ label is put. The car gets minor cosmetic changes with minor changes in the interiors. Also, the crossover gets a Marina Blue and White dual – tone colour scheme, which is only available in the top SX variant. The whole design, engine specifications and features of the car remain unchanged. However, i20 Active Facelift version has been launched globally and was quite successful over there.
i20 Active receives minor updates like – a contrasting roof paint scheme, updated alloy wheels, new seat upholstery and revised centre control unit. The revised centre control unit gets a bigger 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The top SX variant also gets an ISOFIX child mount. Barring these updates, the car remains the same in terms of engine and features.
Hyundai i20 Active comes in petrol and diesel options. The petrol variant sports a 1.2 Litre Kappa VTVT engine that produces 82 BHP worth power and 114 Nm worth torque. The 1.4 Litre Turbocharged diesel engine produces 89 BHP worth power and 220 Nm worth torque. The petrol variant is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and the diesel variant gets a 6-speed manual transmission.
Current i20 Active’s top-spec trim gets features like 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, Reverse Parking Assist, Automatic Headlamps, keyless entry, engine immobilizer and more. The global facelift version receives a lot of updates. In international facelift version, the i20 Active will come with an optional seven-speed dual-clutch auto gearbox and an idle stop-start system. It is unlikely that Indian version would get the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The globally facelifted i20 Active also includes a 2 new colour schemes with an added LED tail lamp.
The updated Hyundai i20 Active Petrol variant starts from Rs 6.99 Lakhs to Rs 8.66 Lakhs (both ex-showroom). The diesel variant starts from Rs 8.96 Lakhs to Rs 10.01 Lakhs (both ex-showroom). However, i20 Active costs quite higher than the latest and cheaper Ford Freestyle. Hyundai i20 Active competes with Freestyle, Volkswagen Polo Cross and Toyota Etios Cross. However, amongst all its competition, i20 Active is easily the winner crossover model in India.
