Launched a few months ago, the third-generation Hyundai i20 has been rather quick to establish itself as a worthy successor to the highly successful Elite i20. In its latest avatar, the i20 is bigger, offers more power and even comes with more high-end features. In fact, the top-of-the-line trim (Asta (O)) even offers an excellent 8-speakers Bose audio unit to keep the audiophiles very happy. The entry-level Magna trim, however, gets a lower grade unit with 6-speakers. But does that mean you’ll have to upgrade the audio system in case you buy this car? Well, a YouTuber decided to find just that!

While the high-end trims of the i20 come with a 10.25-inch touchscreen unit, the entry-level model comes with a 2-DIN player that offers a rather tiny dot-matrix screen. The video host points out that the overall layout of the buttons and controls is fairly simple and one further benefits from easy Bluetooth connectivity. The Youtuber even points out how easy it is to scan and store FM channels, set equaliser settings, etc. A feature called ‘Optimize Driver’ enhances the aural experience for the driver and should come in handy especially when the driver is alone and can command the system to provide the best audio output around the driver’s seat. By selecting ‘optimize all’, the sound drivers work to enhance the output for the entire cabin.

As the video progresses, the host highlights some more features of the music system, with none of them being anything out of ordinary. Finally, he plays some copyright-free soundtrack to try and demonstrate the audio quality that this unit offers at low, medium and high volume. At low volume, the music quality turns out to be pretty good, with good synchronization between the speakers and the sound notes. At medium volume, the base quality takes a hit as the speakers start struggling to cope up. At high volumes, the entire music quality goes for a toss and the host recommends playing music below 35 points and setting base output at medium levels.

To conclude, the Youtuber says that while the overall audio output is acceptable, it’s nothing out of ordinary and music lovers will have to look at aftermarket options to enjoy high quality music playback. From all this, it becomes clear that the music system of the entry-level variant is no match for the Bose unit available in high-end trims.
