India’s first electric SUV, Hyundai Kona has been launched in India, for a price of Rs 25.3 Lakhs. It gets a massive driving range of 452 kms onboard.
Hyundai brings it’s first EV to India, and it is the Kona SUV. With this, the manufacturer kick starts the electric car revolution in India, with many more to come in the next few years.
Hyundai Kona comes at a price of Rs 25.3 Lakhs, (ex-showroom). The EV is smaller in size than the Creta but bigger than the Venue. So, basically, it is priced around 60% more than what its petrol/diesel powered version would cost.
Kona boasts of a staggering 452 km driving range on a single charge, as certified by ARAI. In the real world conditions, the range could come down to 380-400 kms. which is actually great.

On the front, you miss out on the grille because there is no combustion engine. It gets sharp LED DRLs with full LED headlamps just below it. A sleek brushed metal line flows between the DRLs, housing the Hyundai logo.
All over the body, you get ample plastic cladding. Basically, it looks very much like a crossover, just like W-RV. You get a dual-tone colour treatment and a different type of alloy wheels, which look a bit futuristic.
On the rear portion, you get the Kona and Electric badging with sharp LED tail lamps. Kona is available in five colour options – Blue, Black, White-Black Dual Tone, White and Silver.
Inside the cabin, you get an all-black treatment with silver accents on the switches on the centre console. The cabin looks very premium and immediately catches our attention.
Features onboard include Bi-Function LED headlamps, Leather Seats, Digital Instrument Cluster, 17.7cm touchscreen display with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Voice Recognition and Steering mounted audio controls.

Premium highlights include Electric sunroof, Button type shift by wire technology, front ventilated and heat seats, 10-way power driver with lumbar support, Electronic Parking brake, FATC and much more.
Features exclusively for EV include Drive Mode Select (Eco/Eco+/Comfort and Sport), Paddle Shifters, adjustable regeneration braking, One pedal drive and utility mode.
Hyundai Kona takes 57 minutes to charge from 0-80% with a fast charger, and a normal charger 6 hours for the same. The charging port comes on the front grille, for the convenience of the driver.
It gets a 39.2 kWh advanced lithium-ion polymer battery, that produces 136 BHP and 40.27 kgm (394 Nm) of torque. The car springs from 0-100 kmph in just 9.7 seconds flat. The battery also gets liquid-cooling technology.
Safety features onboard include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, VSM, Hill Assist Control, Rear parking Camera with Dynamic Guidelines, Tire Pressure Monitoring System and All Disc Brakes.

The Kona is 4180mm long, 1800mm wide and 1570mm tall. It further gets a wheelbase of 2600mm. FYI, the Creta is around 4230mm long and the Venue is around 3995mm long.
The customers will be provided with 2 chargers – a portable charger and a AC wall box charger. The portable unit can be plugged into any normal 3 pin 15 AMP socket and can charge up to 50 kms in 3 hours.
Hyundai offers a warranty of 3 years and unlimited kilometres along with a warranty for its high voltage battery for 8 years and up to 1.6 Lakh kms. Hyundai Kona will find its competitor from MG Motors, the MG eZS, which will be launched this December.
