Cons of Kia Syros After Review

The trend of car buyers opting for the convenience associated with the automatic transmission is growing

In this post, we take a look at the details of the Kia Syros petrol manual vs automatic versions. This will guide you to take the right call according to your needs. Syros is a unique product which sits somewhere between the Seltos and Sonet in our market. However, it boasts a more modern exterior styling and interior cabin, along with loads of new-age amenities to pamper the occupants. Also, it embodies the latest global design philosophy from Kia, which we have experienced in many new global products. For now, let us take a look at the details of this case.

Kia Syros Petrol Manual vs Automatic

During my recent review of the Kia Syros, I was able to experience the compact SUV in depth. As a consequence, I have put together a bunch of pros and cons of the manual and automatic transmissions. Hopefully, this will help the potential buyers. Here are some key points to consider before you decide to buy it:

  • Price – On average, the Kia Syros automatic commands a premium of around Rs 1.5 lakh over the manual versions. This is something we have seen on many cars. I believe this is a standard premium for a smooth automatic gearbox.
  • Turbo Lag – Since the Kia Syros boasts a peppy 3-cylinder turbo petrol mill, one can witness a noticeable turbo lag in the manual. It is obvious that manual gear shifts can take place at any time. Therefore, the case for turbo lag becomes real and probable. However, in the automatic variant, the electronics manage gear changes, which ensures that the RPM is ideal to avoid most turbo lag.
  • Maintenance – In the long run, it is slightly more expensive to maintain an automatic car in comparison to a manual. Nevertheless, I must mention that this is true for every car and not just the Syros.
  • Mileage – In a price and mileage-conscious country like India, fuel efficiency plays a critical role in deciding which car to pick for most buyers. The Korean auto giant claims a mileage of 18.2 km/l for the manual and 17.68 km/l for the automatic. These are decent numbers, but the real-world figures will largely depend on your driving mannerisms and weather conditions.
  • Trim Selection – Finally, you must note that there is no option of the manual transmission with the top trims of the Kia Syros range. This means that you will miss out on some key features as well, including things like ventilated rear seats, level 2 ADAS, etc. These are some pros and cons of the manual and automatic avatars of the Kia Syros.
