Mahindra will soon deliver 1,470 units of 4WD version of the previous generation Scorpio SUV to the Indian Army
Mahindra has secured an order to supply the Indian Army with 1,470 units of the previous generation Scorpio. While the last-gen Scorpio has been re-launched as the Scorpio Classic, the version being readied for our Defence forces is a 4WD version not available to the public. Also, the recently seen vehicles feature the same alloys as the previous-generation version. Apart from the older-designed alloys, they even miss out on the company’s new ‘Twin Peaks’ logo. Other differences include positioning lamps and a tow hitch.

Army-spec Mahindra Scorpio Classic to Get 140 hp Diesel engine
The latest spy images show an exclusive matte green shade that has a matte finish. Earlier spy media showed black-coloured plastic cladding but the latest sighting shows body-coloured cladding. Inside, the army-spec Scorpio will have grey and black interior. It will even feature a touchscreen infotainment system and along with climate control.
Unlike the civilian-spec SUV’s RWD format, the Army version will have a 4×4 system. Also, it will be more powerful with a 140 hp heart. That said, the exact specs stay undisclosed. For the uninitiated, the Scorpio Classic boasts a revised 130hp, 2.2-litre diesel engine. So far, the Indian Army has procured SUVs like the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy, Tata Xenon and Tata Safari Storme, with the former being the most successful induction into the Army fleet.
