Mahindra XUV e8 (XUV700 electric)

On the 75th Independence Day of India, Mahindra revealed its future range of all-electric SUVs along with the tech and features associated with them.

Mahindra e8 is the electric counterpart of the XUV700 and would be the first product in the EV lineup of the SUV maker. While the EV is set to launch in December 2024, it has already been spotted testing on the roads. Mahindra has realised that the future of mobility is inevitably electric which is why it has gone all-in by showcasing, as many as 5 all-electric SUVs with the launch timeline until 2026. These will be based in dedicated electric platform and come with healthy powertrains and range.

The electric SUV was spotted wrapped in complete camouflage but it was deduced that this was the bronze-coloured EV. The tail-end of the SUV is visible which looks remarkably similar to the rear section of the XUV700. This is expected because the e8 will feature the electric powertrain under the hood but the aesthetics and cabin layout might bear complete resemblance with the ICE model. But that is not a bad thing at all because the XUV700 comes with a premium-looking feature-laden cabin with all the latest tech and comfort amenities.

Specs and Platform

Underpinning all these 5 SUVs will be a dedicated INGLO platform that has the flexibility of accommodating 5 and 7-seat arrangements and 2WD and AWD drivetrains. Also, there will be 2 LFP battery packs on offer – 60 kWh and 80 kWh. The larger battery pack will have a range of 450 km on the WLTP cycle. Fast charging is an important aspect of the EV industry and the Mahindra SUVs will support 175 kW DC fast charging allowing a 5-80% charging time of under 30 mins. The power output would range from 285 PS (RWD) to 394 PS (AWD). These will certainly make them seriously quick and capable.

Mahindra e8 is the electric version of XUV700
Mahindra e8 will be the electric version of the XUV700 and is planned for launch in December 2024.

We are eagerly waiting for Mahindra to enter the EV space which is currently dominated by Tata Motors in our market. However, the electric version of the XUV300 will be called the XUV400 and it is expected to launch in the coming weeks. That would go up against the likes of the Tata Nexon EV, Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV. Therefore, the first step toward the mass EV market from Mahindra is just around the corner.
