I have seen many idiotic acts on the internet and this man judging the build quality of cars simply by knocking on the body is as stupid as it gets. For this case, he takes the Mahindra Thar to pass on a judgement on a Maruti Swift and Grand Vitara! Now, we can’t stress enough how baseless these conclusions are. Regrettably, this isn’t the first instance of a YouTuber employing this imprudent technique. We encounter such nonsensical methods for assessing car build quality on a regular basis. For now, let us check out the details of what this vlogger has to say about cars.

Build Quality of Cars by Knocking

This video comes from _nk143 on Instagram. It captures the man saying that the Mahindra Thar has a solid build. His proof is the fact that he hears a strong thud every time he knocks on the body of the SUV. He does so on the bonnet, side fenders, door panels, etc. After knocking these components thoroughly, he concludes that Mahindra and Tata cars have ‘real’ iron. All the other cars from Maruti, like Swift and Grand Vitara, have plastic body panels. That is the basis of this thesis. Needless to say, this is totally absurd.

He completely disregards the safety rating protocols and tests to determine the build quality of cars. In fact, some parts of the cars need to be constructed out of plastic to ensure that if the car hits a pedestrian, the latter doesn’t get fatally injured. That is why it is common that even top-end luxury cars have bumpers or boot lids made out of plastic. That doesn’t indicate anything regarding the build quality of the car or the strength of its body. Hence, I would advise my readers to be aware of such mindless content creators.

Author’s Note

We advise against forming opinions about a car’s durability solely from videos like these. The most reliable method to assess safety is through official NCAP testing, a standardized procedure designed for precisely evaluating a car’s safety level. If you’re watching these videos for entertainment, that’s fine. However, it’s crucial not to draw conclusions about a car’s quality solely from the perspectives of such YouTubers. Encourage others to recognize this as well to prevent being misled by entertaining yet potentially misleading videos.
