Although there are concerns over the underpowered nature of the small 793cc motor, the company claims that it has been tuned to suit urban conditions and that the lack of power will not be evident. The Maruti Celerio diesel DDiS 125 will be launched on 3rd June in possibly three trim levels; LDi, VDi and ZDi. Other variants such as one for the taxi market and an automatic version equipped with an AMT gearbox could also be launched at a later stage.

The fuel mileage of the Maruti Celerio Diesel DDiS 125 is one of the most talked about points of the car. Sources claim that the Celerio diesel will have an ARAI certified mileage of 27.62 kmpl making it the most fuel-efficient diesel in the country.
- The Maruti Celerio diesel DDiS 125, like its petrol cousin, will be available in four variants- LDi, VDi, ZDi and ZDi(O).
- The base variant will get only the most basic of features such as air conditioning, power steering, etc.
- The top-of-the-line ZDi trim will get additional, more premium features such as an integrated audio system with USB, AUX and Bluetooth compatibility, dual front airbags, alloy wheels, electrically controlled ORVMs and more.
- Maruti Suzuki might also offer an automatic transmission in the form of an AMT at a later stage and based on what they offer with the petrol version, the AMT could be available for all trims levels.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel DDiS 125 will be powered by an all-new, indigenously developed 2 cylinder 793cc diesel motor. The power output from the engine stands at 47 bhp and the torque is rated at 125 Nm. Maruti claims that this 125Nm torque will ensure the Celerio diesel does not feel underpowered under city conditions. Although initial reports suggest that the lack of power is clearly evident and the refinement levels are also a bit unsatisfactory. As mentioned earlier, mileage stands at a very healthy 27.62 kmpl and this is expected to be one of the main selling points of the Maruti Celerio diesel.
The ingeniously developed twin-cylinder 793 cc diesel engine for the Celerio misses out on common-rail diesel injection, and instead, boasts of a Bosch engine management system that comprises of a fuel injection block, a high-pressure fuel pump and a fuel control unit. This low-capacity oil burner benefits from a high-revving turbocharger and four valves per cylinder. The engine tips the scales at merely 89 kgs.
