Maruti Futuro E Auto Expo 2020

Maruti Suzuki has unveiled the new Coupe-style electric SUV, Futuro E Concept at the Auto Expo 2020.

Maruti has commenced the 2020 Auto Expo with the unveiling of its Futuro E Concept. It is a Coupe-styled pure electric SUV, the first of its kind in the budget range. It comes in as a design study for next-gen mobility solutions. Maruti wants to target the young buyers of India with Futuro.

Maruti Futuro E is conceptualized and designed completely in India, built for our market. The styling is something unique and usually found on premium cars. There’s the sloping roofline, an almost flat bonnet, a proper SUV stance with high ground clearance and chunky wheel arches.

Other highlights of the Futuro E include the long flowing wraparound LED tail lamps, a ‘Smile’ type LED DRL having the Suzuki logo in between. There are very few coupe-style SUVs in India, including the Porsche Cayenne and the BMW X4.

Futuro E is built on an entirely new electric platform, that will further spawn more EVs from the manufacturer. Maruti is already working on the electric WagonR, but since the SUV space is trending the most among Indian buyers, it decided to commence its development on an electric one.

Maruti claims that it is working towards environment-friendly technologies and feature-rich products. Once the Futuro E comes in a production-ready version it will retain this shape. However, it will get many design clues that come from the new age Maruti cars.

As of now, there are three electric SUVs in India, including the Tata Nexon EV, MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona. People are preferring SUVs over sedans and premium hatchbacks because they offer more space comfort. Nexon EV costs around Rs 15 Lakhs, the ZS EV for Rs 20 Lakhs and the Kona for Rs 23 Lakhs (all prices ex-showroom).
