In an unexpected move last month, Maruti Suzuki rolled out enticing price benefits for the Jimny. This was done in a bid to gain sales momentum and clear dealer stocks for the year. The deal included a remarkable Rs 2 lakh cash discount on the Zeta variant and a Rs 1 lakh cash discount on the Alpha variant. Additionally, customers were in for a treat with the complimentary “Thunder Edition” kit, featuring add-on accessories for both the interior and exterior.

End of the Price Benefit Saga for Maruti Jimny Enthusiasts?
As the calendar flips to January 2024, Maruti Suzuki delivers news that the lucrative benefits given in December will no longer persist. The off-roader will now return to its regular pricing. This signals a return to the lower prices prevalent last month. So, purchasing the Jimny this month will come at a higher cost in comparison to last month. Now, this is something that might disappoint Jimny fans planning to finally acquire the compact off-roader.
Shashank Shrivastava, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki, clarifies that the extensive discounts in December were as per a strategy to clear the MY2023 stock at dealerships. The move aimed to prevent carrying over last year’s stock into the new calendar year. While these discounts were a one-time offer, Maruti Suzuki hints at potential discounts this month to maintain the momentum generated in December.

Clearing the Path for New Momentum
Maruti Suzuki ensures that the discounts provided in December were not permanent price cuts but temporary benefits. The ex-showroom prices, starting at Rs 12.74 lakh for the Zeta manual, remain unchanged. However, anticipating customer expectations and market dynamics, Maruti Suzuki may extend some discounts in January 2024. These, though, might not be as substantial as the year-end offers.
Launched in June 2023, the Maruti Jimny is available in two trim levels – Zeta and Alpha. Powering the compact SUV is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 104 PS of power and 134.6 Nm of torque. Buyers can opt for either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The Jimny faces competition primarily from the three-door Mahindra Thar. The latter will receive a five-door variant later this year but that might not be in direct competition with the Jimny owing to a higher price tag. Stay tuned for any surprises that may unfold as Jimny continues to make waves in the Indian automotive landscape.
