Now, a hot hatch version of the Swift might launch in India. The Maruti Suzuki Swift RS is expected to launch in India soon, to rival Tata Tiago JTP. A battle for the cheapest hot-hatchback.
Maruti Suzuki Swift RS is reportedly going to launch soon. Earlier, it was speculated that Swift Sport might come to India. Globally, the Swift Sport gets a 1.4 Litre Turbocharged petrol engine that produces whooping 138 BHP. In India, we already have the Baleno RS, which gets a 1.0 Litre Turbocharged Boosterjet petrol engine. We do not know the exact launch details yet, but reports suggest that it will launch soon.
You might think about the limited edition RS Swift that was launched in 2013. Well, that was just a cosmetic upgrade edition and did not get any mechanical changes. The same Limited edition came with the earlier Ciaz, too. Well, this one gets mechanical as well as minor cosmetic upgrades.
The Maruti Suzuki Swift RS will get a 1 Litre Turbocharged petrol engine. This engine produces 101 BHP of power and 150 Nm of torque. It will be a bit underpowered than the Tiago JTP, as the Tata hot-hatch gets a 1.2 Litre Turbo petrol unit. However, Tiago JTP and Swift RS will come in a similar price range.
Since, Baleno and Swift both use the new HEARTECT platform, the shifting of the engine is easy. The Maruti Suzuki Swift RS will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission without an optional AMT gearbox. Along with the engine, it could also get a stiffer and revised suspension setup.
Currently, Maruti Swift is amongst the best selling cars of Maruti. In August, it was ranked third in the monthly sales figure. The lovable and fun to drive hatchback gets many premium features, thanks to its generation update.
