The new Maruti Suzuki Vitara was spotted during one of its public test drives. With different looks and a bigger body, the compact SUV is set to overtake S Cross and compete with Renault Duster and Hyundai Creta.
Maruti Suzuki is planning for a new entrant in the compact SUV segment with its new Vitara, which was spotted on the roads. A picture by Team-BHP was recently uploaded with number plates pointing out to the Vitara earlier spotted in March 2018.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara is seen longer than Vitara Brezza and seems to be offering more cabin space too. The estimated launch date for the car is near April 2018 with a launch price ranging between Rs 10 Lakh – Rs 15 Lakh. Vitara will come with the same 5 seater capacity, however with bigger space.
Vitara was launched in 1998 and globally is very popular. Already in its fourth generation in global markets, Vitara comes in both petrol and diesel option. The petrol variant sports a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder unit that makes 118 BHP and 156 Nm of torque. It also comes with a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine putting out 138 BHP and 220 Nm of torque. The diesel variant gives a 1.6-litre unit churning out 118 BHP and 320 Nm of torque. The car comes with a choice of 5-speed or 6-speed manual transmissions or a 6-speed automatic gearbox with an optional all-wheel-drive system.
Features would include keyless entry, reverse parking sensors etc. Citing to safety measures, the SUV is expected to get the anti-lock-braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution and dual front airbags. Since the SUV will not fall in Maruti’s premium line-up, it will be priced competitively and will be retailed from the regular Maruti outlets instead of Nexa.
The new Vitara will feature a couple of similarities to the Brezza, specifically the side panels and dual-tone body colours. Comparing the Vitara to the Hyundai Creta, the latter is bigger in terms of exterior dimensions. Creta and Duster would fall in competition with Vitara under the compact SUV segment. The current Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza beats Creta and Duster in terms of mileage, however having engine specifications lower than both of the cars.
