It often comes to pass that a used luxury car is available at a price point similar to a relative popular regular car which is what puts some people in a state of dilemma.

According to a Facebook post, a pre-owned 2008 Mercedes S-Class is on sale for Rs 9.50 lakh which is also the starting price of the base Kia Seltos. Owning any Mercedes product is a symbol of opulence for most people around the world. It is no different in India, especially when the model in question is an S-Class. However, with second-hand vehicles comes unreliability. That is, essentially, the decision that one has to make when presented with such situations.

Mercedes S-Class or Kia Seltos?

As per the post on Facebook, this model has been owned by a single person for all these years, the comprehensive insurance is valid until February 2023, has driven 75,000 miles (1,20,700 km), the paint is original, has a mini-fridge installed, dual screen entertainment screen for the rear passengers, park assist, cruise control, height control due to air suspension, beige and brown interior theme, recently serviced and the asking price of Rs 9.50 lakh is slightly negotiable. This could be a great opportunity for a whole lot of people to get their hands on an S-Class without having to break the bank.

Now, the decision to make here is whether or not you are willing to spend time and resources on the high maintenance costs of a luxury car. With any new car, one could be assured that for a few years, there won’t be any significant service charges or component replacements. However, with a model that is 14 years old, one can’t really avoid repair and service charges. On top of that, there will be a constant fear of the lack of reliability. Hence, it doesn’t make sense to buy such an old luxury car just because of the brand value.

Nevertheless, there are people who already have vehicles but are looking for a second car as a passion project. In such cases where budget is not a constraint and you value your dreams of owning a luxury car a lot, it might not be too bad an idea either. Hence, whether or not you should buy this Merc depends on the use case. We advise you to take all the factors into consideration before making such a huge decision.
