MG eZS electric SUV has been unveiled at the Guangzhou Motor Show 2018. It is reported to launch in the Indian markets by 2020. Before this, MG Motors will launch 2 new SUVs in India.
Official photos of the MG eZS E-SUV show the SUV in a blue paint, looking identical to the conventionally powered ZS SUV. If you see the poster behind the car, it shows ‘Namaste’ written in Hindi.
MG Motors had confirmed that they will launch an Electric SUV by 2020 in India. MG Motors plans to enter the Indian market by the first half of 2019.
It will most likely launch a petrol and diesel-powered SUV in India, first. All of its upcoming models will get BS-6 engines right from the launch.
MG eZS SUV gets a 48 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The motor produces 115 BHP and 255 Nm of peak torque. The electric motor offers a range of up to 425 kms on a single charge. It can acceleration from 0-60 km/hr in just 4 seconds. For transmission purposes, it might use manual gearbox as well as automatic gearbox options.
MG eZS SUV for India will be locally manufactured up to 75%. For a better competition, heavy localization will help achieve a competitive pricing range. It will sport lithium-ion battery packs which are produced and manufactured in India.
Further details are scarce, but it will get features such as panoramic sunroof, touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, fully digital instrument cluster and idle start-stop system.
MG Motors is developing a new plant at Halol, Gujrat. At the plant, it has planned the production capacity of 80,000 units per years. If the demand increases, the capacity can be increased up to 2 Lakhs units per year.
SUVs from these brand will be placed as premium SUVs, priced easily above Rs 15 Lakhs or so. Speculations suggest that the first SUV will use a 1.5 Litre petrol engine and a 2.0 Litre Multijet diesel engine.
We expect the MG eZS SUV to go up for Rs 25 Lakhs and above. At this price, it will take on the likes of upcoming Hyundai Kona Electric SUV.
Hyundai Kona was earlier spotted testing in India without any camouflage. Hyundai E-SUV is scheduled to launch in India by mid-2019.
The conventionally powered SUV will be priced starting from Rs 15 Lakhs to take on the likes of Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and Mahindra XUV 500.
