MG Motor has been taking charge in the EV space after the launch of its recent electric car, the Windsor EV
MG Motor delivered an impressive 201 EVs in a single day in Bengaluru. This included the recently launched Windsor EV, Comet EV and ZS EV. MG’s Indian EV portfolio has become strong with all these products contributing to the healthy sales figures. In fact, the Windsor EV became the first passenger EV in India to bag 15,176 bookings within 24 hours of booking announcement. Not just that, in its first month of launch, it achieved the title of being the most-selling EV in the country. That is a huge testament to its appeal considering this title was secured by Tata Motors for months. Perhaps, the customers are opening up to new and intriguing vehicles.
MG Motor Delivers 201 EVs in a Single Day
The visuals in this post from jubilantmotorwoks and mgmotorin on Instagram capture the excitement on this unique occasion. As a part of this magical number, 75 MG ZS EVs were integrated into the Bengaluru Airport Taxi fleet in collaboration with Refex Green Mobility. This marks a significant shift in the country’s transition to eco-friendly transportation. I feel the integration of electric cars into public transport is a crucial step in the mass adoption of EVs and working towards carbon neutrality. I am certain that we will keep coming across such instances even more as we move forward.
MG Windsor EV has been able to change the fortunes of the company. The main reason for that is its industry-first BaaS (Battery-as-a-Service) option. Under this, the buyers will need to pay only for the vehicle upfront, while they can rent the battery for a monthly amount which depends on their usage. For instance, this amount for the Windsor EV is Rs 3.5 per km. We know that battery makes up for 30-40% of the total price of an EV. Hence, customers are able to save a considerable amount. That is what pushed them to take the plunge and opt for these EVs. After its resounding success, MG has introduced a similar model for its other two EVs as well.
My View
The EV space is growing swiftly in India. In the last few years, people are getting exposed to more options in terms of models from different carmakers. In fact, we just had the launch of two new EVs from Mahindra. Clearly, the future is electric and there will be increasing choices for people to commence their electric journeys. At the same time, the challenges pertaining to the charging infrastructure will need to be ironed out. Let us keep an eye out for more details in this regard.
