The trend of converting regular mass-market vehicles into premium cars is becoming more and more popular these days
Here is a Ford Freestyle that tries hard to look like a Mini Cooper but ends up looking like a rather weird contraption instead. In recent times, I have been reporting about aftermarket car modifications. The access to world-class spare parts and creative ideas results in ensuring that any car can be converted into just about any other vehicle. As a result, I have seen so many replicas and modified cars, particularly in recent times. For now, let us delve into the details of this latest case.
Ford Freestyle-based Mini Cooper
The specifics of this case emerge from vwahmedcars on Instagram. In the visuals, we see the creator explaining the features of this car. At the front, it gets a tweaked fascia with round headlamps which have a slight extension toward the rear. Apart from that, it gets a broad front grille with a chrome frame and a sporty bumper which has chrome embellishments around the fog lamp and lower section. Basically, the customiser is using Maruti A-Star headlamps and a Fiat Punto Evo bumper over here for a more rounded look. The man in the video even mentions that the alloy wheels will be new and there will even be a spoiler.
These are extreme customizations for a mass-market car. In addition, it even gets an electric sunroof which has been cut out by the car shop. We are able to see that in the visuals. The rear, though, does have a higher resemblance to Mini Cooper, especially because of the new taillights. The fit and finish doesn’t look all that great at the moment. That could be perhaps due to the fact that the modifications are not complete yet. However, in all honesty, I feel this one looks more like a Fiat Punto rather than the Mini Cooper. Perhaps, by the time it is complete, we will have varied opinions. We shall have to wait for that.
My View
I love to encounter such creative renditions of prominent automobiles. However, I must mention that most car modifications are illegal in India. Hence, while these are great as passion projects or applications in remote areas of the country, if you take these out on city roads, you are bound to get investigated by the Traffic Police. Therefore, you must ensure that you consult your local RTO before making any changes to the exterior of your car if you wish to stay clear of the cops. In any case, I shall keep bringing more such cases in the future.
