New Maruti Micro-SUV is reportedly going to launch in India next year. It will rival against the likes of Mahindra KUV 100 and other upcoming micro-SUVs from Tata, Datsun, and Hyundai.
Seems like Maruti is trying to enter the Micro-SUV segment. Reports suggest that the Japanese manufacturer is readying up a new Maruti Micro-SUV to launch in India in 2019. It will be based on the Future S Concept SUV, showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. The Maruti Micro-SUV gets a proper SUV stance, however a micro-SUV. It will majorly rival against the only micro-SUV in India, the Mahindra KUV 100. However, the competition does not end with KUV. It also goes up against the upcoming micro-SUVs from Tata, Datsun, and Hyundai.
The most interesting thing about this micro-SUV is that it is speculated to be named ‘Zen’. Yes, the lovable hatchback is going to be back. Sadly, it would not be a hatchback now.
Most probably, the Maruti Micro SUV will just come with a 1.2 Litre petrol engine. This engine is used in Swift and Baleno. This petrol engine produces 83 BHP of power and 113 Nm of peak torque.
For transmission duties, it will get a 5-speed manual gearbox along with a Maruti’s Auto Gear Shift. There are no details about a diesel variant, as most of the reports say only about the petrol variant.
The Maruti Micro-SUV will get an upright stance, a well commanding high seating position, big wheel arches, increased ground clearance, and more such SUV traits. However, it would look very different from the Vitara Brezza, Maruti’s only SUV.
Since it is going to launch in 2019, it might also feature a BS-VI compliant engine. Also, dual airbags with ABS, Electronic Stability Control and other pedestrian safety measures will be standard fitments.
The Maruti Micro-SUV will mostly start at around Rs 5 Lakhs onwards and could possibly go up to Rs 8 Lakhs. This price range is similar to that of the Maruti Suzuki Swift and Ignis. Also, in a similar price range, the KUV 100 is priced. Other upcoming competitors will include Tata Hornbill, Hyundai Micro-SUV and one from Datsun too.
Along with the petrol variant, it might get a possible Electric variant too. Since the Maruti Wagon R EV is also launching by next year, the Maruti Micro-SUV could also feature one.
