Nissan Tekton vs Maruti Grand Vitara Specs Features Price Comparison

The new mid-size SUV has further made this segment even more competitive, but it is great for buyers

In this post, we compare the newly launched Nissan Tekton and Maruti Grand Vitara on the basis of specs, features and price to decide which one makes more sense. Nissan is amidst expanding its footprint in India to grab a bigger chunk of market share. Hence, the new product like the Tekton is positioned in a space which has been a volume churner for the past many years. On the other hand, the Maruti Grand Vitara is among the highest-selling cars in this space. Hence, this comparison is slated to be exciting. Let us delve into the details here.

Nissan Tekton vs Maruti Grand Vitara – Price Comparison

Since India is largely a price-conscious market, it makes sense to start the comparison by looking at what each of these SUVs cost. The new Nissan Tekton starts at an enticing Rs 10.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 18.59 lakh, ex-showroom. These are quite competitive prices for this space. On the other hand, the Maruti Grand Vitara is on sale between Rs 10.77 lakh and Rs 19.72 lakh, ex-showroom. Therefore, the Tekton certainly has an edge over the Grand Vitara.

Now, let us compare the details of what powers these vehicles. The new Tekton shares the powertrain options with the Renault Duster, although it won’t be offered in hybrid avatar. This means that it will be powered by two turbo petrol engines only. These are 1.0-litre (T160) and a 1.3-litre (T280) units, which belt out a familiar 100 PS / 166 Nm and 163 PS / 280 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. Furthermore, the smaller engine can only be had with a 6-speed manual transmission, while the bigger engine can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed DCT automatic gearbox. Also, the mileage figures are 19.4 kml for T160, 17.8 km/l for T280 MT and 18.5 km/l for T280 DCT. A healthy ground clearance of 212 mm is ideal for our road conditions. Therefore, buyers have a wide range of options to choose from.

The Maruti Grand Vitara is available with three distinct powertrain choices – a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol with mild-hybrid technology, a 1.5-litre four-cylinder strong-hybrid petrol and a 1.5-litre bi-fuel petrol-CNG unit. These deliver 103 PS / 139 Nm, 116 PS / 141 Nm and 87 PS / 121 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. Buyers opting for the mild-hybrid version can choose between a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the CNG variant is exclusively offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The strong-hybrid model, on the other hand, comes solely with an e-CVT automatic transmission. For those who occasionally venture off the beaten path, the mild-hybrid variant is also available with Suzuki’s ALLGRIP SELECT AWD system, which offers dedicated terrain modes such as Snow, Sport and Lock for enhanced traction and control.

My View

I must confess that choosing between these two mid-size SUVs could pose a slight conundrum for a lot of people. On the one hand, we have the new Nissan Tekton, which comes with all the latest bells and whistles and multiple powertrain and transmission alternatives. On the other, the Maruti Grand Vitara is already among the most popular models in this space. I would advise our readers to experience the two cars in the flesh and take them out for a test drive to know which one suits their individual needs the best.

Yatharth Chauhan, Managing Editor

The arrival of the Nissan Tekton has injected fresh excitement into one of India’s most fiercely contested SUV segments. What makes this comparison particularly interesting is that both SUVs appeal to buyers in very different ways. The Tekton brings a bold new design, turbo-petrol performance and a long list of modern features, while the Grand Vitara counters with Maruti Suzuki’s proven reliability, strong-hybrid technology and exceptional fuel efficiency. Ultimately, there is no outright winner here – the right choice will depend on whether you value performance and novelty or efficiency and long-term ownership peace of mind.
