Volkswagen India has confirmed the launch of a new imported SUV in India before this Diwali. The manufacturer is now shifting its focus to SUVs.

Volkswagen India has a couple of cars in its lineup that is performing averagely. The lineup gets Polo, Ameo, Vento, Passat and Tiguan. Now, the manufacturer is planning to expand its India portfolio, but with SUVs.

A New Volkswagen SUV is slated to launch in India, reportedly before Diwali this year. Moneycontrol, reports that the company will begin its product offensive by bringing an imported SUV in 2019.

We expect Volkswagen to bring the T-Roc to India. It has been strongly rumoured to launch in India, as a model in the mid-size SUV segment. So, Hyundai Creta awaits a new and imported rival.

Volkswagen has confirmed that it will be an SUV brand in the coming years. Sedans and hatchbacks will also come alongside. As of now, it only has the Tiguan SUV, which is not a popular one in the market.

The new Volkswagen SUV or the T-Roc will enter the highly competitive mid-segment SUV in India. So, expect the prices to stay in the 12-17 Lakhs range, as most of them are priced similarly.

Importantly, Volkswagen can now save up on the homologation process, as the government now allows manufacturers to import vehicles without the certificate. Certificates approved in Europe, Japan and Australia are valid for the Indian market.

As per the new rules, manufacturers are allowed to import 2500 units annually without any additional certificate. Basically, this acts as a litmus test for the companies, if their car can run good in India.

Earlier, we speculated that Volkswagen could bring the smaller T-Cross to India, which would go against the sub-compact SUVs in India. However, the bigger T-Roc will only come in a single top-spec variant.

As said earlier, the T-Roc will go against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500 and some variants of Jeep Compass. Also, it will find new rivals in MG Hector and Kia Seltos.
