To rival the Toyota Fortuner, Nissan Terra might make its way in India. With this, Nissan plans to launch other SUVs in the Indian market too. As of now, its first upcoming SUV is the Nissan Kicks.
Nissan is known for its dominance in SUVs and trucks. Its SUV range is popular across many countries. With an increasing demand for SUVs in India, Nissan plans to bring its legendary SUV range in India. It plans to bring around 6 SUVs in India, which includes the upcoming Kicks. After Kicks, there are speculations that Nissan Terra will be launched in India to rival Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. Terra is available in South East Asian markets as a full-grown 7-seater SUV.
As of now, Nissan has a very low share in the market. It only has Micra, Sunny and Terrano, which are average performers in the market. Globally, its SUVs and trucks are quite popular. From a long time, Nissan SUVs have been used extensively across various countries.
The Indonesian-spec Nissan Terra comes with a 2.5 Litre diesel engine that puts out 190 HP and 400 Nm. It pairs up with a manual unit along with an optional Automatic unit. The SUV also offers 4X4 and 4X2 drivetrains.
After these two SUVs, Nissan also plans to bring Pathfinder, Patrol X-Trail and more such SUVs. The names, launch dates and details are not out yet. There are chances that low priced SUVs might be produced in India, but the high-end ones would mostly be bought as CBUs. The X-Trail was earlier available in India as a CKD unit but was stopped due to poor sales.
Reports say that Nissan Terra might be bought as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) in India. However, this might result in the high pricing of the Terra. As of now, Fortuner starts off at Rs 27 Lakhs going up to Rs 33 Lakhs. So, the Terra needs to be priced accordingly, to take on the might of Fortuner.
As we said, the first one from this lot is the upcoming Nissan Kicks. The Kicks was recently unveiled in India and we got an idea of its exteriors. The launch of Kicks is probably in the early months of 2019.
The Kicks will take on the likes of Renault Captur, Mahindra Scorpio and Hyundai Creta. The Kicks is built on Captur’s platform itself but is a bit lighter and bigger than it.
