Ola Electric Scooter Owner Breaks his EV After Getting Rs 90,000 Repair Estimate

It looks like the challenging times for Ola Electric just don’t have an end as another dissatisfied customer surfaces

In a fit of anger after receiving Rs 90,000 repair estimate on a Rs 1 lakh EV, an Ola scooter owner was spotted hitting his vehicle with a hammer. To make a point, he performed this act in front of the Ola Electric showroom. In the last few months, we have seen a massive surge in cases where owners allegedly face issues with service and repairs. During the monsoon season, we saw hundreds of electric scooters parked outside the showroom for service. Due to a lack of mechanics, the waiting times were huge. Apart from that, the problems with the quality of products have been in the open for a while. For now, let us take a look at the details of this latest case.

Ola Scooter Owner Breaks His EV

The specifics of this incident have been shared online extensively. The viral video showcases the owner in front of the Ola Electric dealership. He has a hammer in his hand with which he is repeatedly hitting the electric scooter. The owner claims that his scooter is just 1 month old and he has been having issues with it. When he went to the service centre, he was allegedly handed over a repair estimate of Rs 90,000. That is simply absurd on multiple counts. In any case, angered by this occurrence, he expressed his frustration by breaking the scooter completely in front of the service centre. In fact, some people standing there also joined in. These are, indeed, sad visuals.

The netizens of X also supported this man with comments like, “Sadly it’s a reality… They are the worst kinds of people and company.. not giving proper service and when they do, they give high bill for the repairs, instead of paying that bill one can buy petrol scooter or bike [sic]”, “Ola is the best example of how India is performing under these corrupt politicians and plutocrats! [sic]”, “Ola founders unprofessional practices already well established in Ola taxi services & now extended to Scooters they make. Govt should bring regulatory mechanism to safeguard public at large [sic].” Clearly, they are not amused. Interestingly, some X users even claimed that this is a part of the fake narrative against Ola.

My View

This is certainly not the first case where the service capabilities and the quality of Ola products have been criticized. In fact, Ola even received a show cause notice from the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) for alleged violations of consumer rights, unfair trade practices, and misleading advertisements in October. This came after the agency noticed many complaints from the electric scooter owner regarding various aspects. I shall keep our readers updated with further developments in this case.
