The Tata Nexon EV becomes India’s first EV to sell over 1,000 units in monthly sales. The electric car segment is growing rapidly in India. The Government is offering a ton of subsidies to make EVs more affordable and attractive. Huge discounts are being offered in the form of cash discounts, waiving of registration fees, etc to promote EV adoption in the country. While the current infrastructure is not ideal, there have been plenty of developments in that regard as well. It will take a long time though but at least, we are on the right track. Hence, the EVs are here to stay. Also, with stricter becoming emission regulations day by day, the cost to keep updating the existing technology in the IC engines will rise substantially. This will force the manufacturers to start offering EVs more aggressively anyway.
The Indian EV scene is constantly evolving. Just a couple of years ago, there was nothing concrete in the EV space. However, now we have electric cars ranging from Rs 10 lakh, ex-showroom-mark to Rs 1 Crore+ in form of the luxury EV SUVs. Tesla had also announced its arrival in our market which might sit somewhere in the middle. However, it will be the entry-level EVs that will be mass-produced for cost reasons. On that front, Tata Nexon EV is leading the charge from its very inception. It already had some 65% market share for the longest time. Now, it has outdone itself and added another feather to its cap.
Tata Nexon Monthly Sales
In the month of August, Tata Nexon EV was able to achieve something unprecedented in the Indian automobile industry. Tata sold 1,022 units of the EV SUV in just one month. This is the first time any EV SUV has crossed the four-digit sales figure. There are plenty of reasons for it. The 5-star safety rating and affordability are among the prime reasons. This had enabled the Nexon EV to reach such high monthly sales.
The Nexon EV has a decent battery pack of 30.20 kWh capacity and a range of 312 km. The power that the EV makes is an impressive 129hp and 245Nm torque. Regular charging from 10% to 90% takes around 8.5 hours, whereas 0-80% with a DC faster charger takes just one hour. The monthly subscription fee is Rs 29,500 for 3 years. The Nexon EV is well within the reach of customers with prices ranging from Rs 13.99 lakh to Rs 16.85 lakh, ex-showroom.
