The launch of Toyota’s iteration of the Maruti Vitara compact SUV in India is going to be preceded by the debut of the Baleno’s iteration by this year-end.
We informed you earlier that Toyota, which is currently under a partnership with Suzuki for sharing vehicles and technology, is likely to introduce its iteration of the Vitara Brezza Compact SUV in India sometime during the year 2020. And that, by the end of this year, it is going to introduce its iteration of the Baleno hatchback in the Indian market. At the same time, Suzuki, which is going to borrow the Corolla Altis from the former is will introduce the sedan’s rebadged version next year as well.
According to a recent report published in Autocar India, it seems that Toyota has now revealed what the exact launch timelines of its iterations of the Suzuki products are going to be. As you must be aware, under this partnership, Toyota is going to receive the Baleno and Vitara Brezza from Maruti Suzuzki while the later is going to get the Corolla sedan from the former to be rebadged and sold through its respective dealership networks.
Toyota’s version of the Maruti Baleno is going to arrive in the Indian market sometime closer to the festive season this year. However, its iteration of the Maruti Vitara Brezza is likely to make its debut either next year or the year after that. In this exchange of vehicles, both the automaker will perform minor tweaks to the other automaker’s vehicle and hence sold them through their own dealership networks. The tweaks will include minor exterior cosmetic updates with the important mechanical bits remaining the same as before.
For instance, Toyota’s iteration of the Maruti Vitara Brezza is likely to continue with the same engine line-up that this compact SUV does. At the moment, it only comes with a 1.3-litre, DDiS unit sourced from Fiat which is soon going to be replaced by a 1.5-litre, in-house developed engine. Soon, Maruti is going to introduce a new petrol engine in the Vitara Brezza as well. We believe that the same is also going to feature in Toyota’s version of the same. Transmission options will include a manual as well as an AMT unit.
Prices of the Toyota’s iteration of the Vitara Brezza is going to fall in the same price range as that of the Maruti’s iteration. Hence, expect them to start from INR 7.5 lakh and go right up to the mark of INR 10.5 lakh for the base variant.
