Mahindra Thar 5-Door

There is no way we could start this discussion without the widely-anticipated Mahindra Thar 5-door. After an extensive testing period, the upcoming Thar 5-door variant is set to feature two additional doors, providing a more spacious cabin compared to the current model. It will retain the powertrain options available in the regular Thar, including a 2.2-litre diesel engine and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine generating 130 hp / 300 Nm and 150 hp / 300 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. The vehicle will offer a choice between a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission, along with features like locking differentials and a low-range transfer case. Similar to the existing Thar, there will be a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version, equipped with a 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 115 hp and 300 Nm. The Thar 5-door will share the same ladder frame chassis as the Scorpio N.

Mahindra XUV400 Facelift

Moving from the rugged off-roader to an electric car. The Mahindra XUV400 electric SUV, derived from the XUV300, will undergo a facelift alongside its smaller counterpart. Notably longer than the XUV300, the XUV400 offers two battery options – a 34.5 kWh and a 39.4 kWh LFP battery, both featuring an IP67 rating for durability and protection. These batteries power the electric motor, delivering an impressive 150 PS and 310 Nm of peak power and torque.

With this robust powertrain, the EV achieves a swift acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.3 seconds, demonstrating remarkable speed. Its maximum speed is conveniently capped at 150 km/h. Depending on the battery variant, it boasts an impressive range of 375 km and 456 km on a single charge under optimal conditions. Utilizing a 50 kW DC fast charger, it can recharge from 10% to 80% in just 50 minutes. There are no anticipated changes to the powertrain with the facelift model.

Mahindra XUV300 Facelift

The next car in our list of upcoming Mahindra Cars in India in 2024 is the Hyundai Venue and Maruti Brezza-rivalling Mahindra XUV300. The compact SUV from Mahindra is set to undergo a facelift in 2024, with several sightings during testing. Expect slight tweaks to the exterior design and new additions to the interior. However, the powertrain options will remain unchanged. It will continue to offer the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine in two variants – one generating 110 hp and 200 Nm, and the other delivering 130 hp and 230 Nm of peak power and torque. Additionally, there’s a 1.5-litre diesel engine with an output of 115 hp and 300 Nm. Both engine options will provide the flexibility of a 6-speed manual transmission or an AMT gearbox. The question remains whether Mahindra will consider replacing the AMT with a torque converter automatic transmission.

Mahindra XUV.e8

The flagship launch from the Indian automotive giant is none other than the Mahindra XUV.e8, essentially the electric iteration of the XUV700. The Mahindra XUV.e8 is poised to feature an 80 kWh battery pack and an all-wheel-drive system. Its powertrain will employ a dual-motor setup, delivering a combined output of 230 PS and 350 Nm. Serving as the inaugural all-electric vehicle in the XUV.e lineup, it is anticipated to hit the market by the conclusion of 2024, positioning itself as a formidable competitor against the Tata Harrier.EV. Author’s Note

Mahindra is struggling to keep up with the demand of its prominent SUVs like Thar, Scorpio N and XUV700. This is a great problem to have. In the last few months, it has tried hard to bring the waiting times down. However, with the 5-door Thar and XUV300 facelift, things could get challenging yet again. These will boast high demand and sales. On the other hand, the XUV400 facelift has a monumental task of taking the market share away from the highest-selling EV in the country, the Tata Nexon EV. Finally, the XUV.e8 will be the first of 5 dedicated EVs from Mahindra in the next couple of years. It will become the flagship SUV in the lineup. Let us keep an eye out for the upcoming Mahindra cars in India in 2024.
