A prominent vlogger ‘tests’ the build quality of the new Maruti Swift. The largest carmaker in the country has recently launched the fourth-generation Swift in the Indian market. The main highlights are the new aesthetics, modern features, a frugal new engine and impressive mileage. Furthermore, Maruti now offers 6 airbags as standard across the range. Even though the official crash test ratings are not out yet, it is possible that the Swift could bag a decent rating. For now, let us check out a YouTuber deploying questionable techniques to ascertain the build quality of the new Swift.
New Maruti Swift Build Quality
This video comes from Harsh VLOGS on YouTube. The vlogger is in a stockyard where the new and old generation Maruti Swift cars are parked side-by-side. He uses a rather hilarious method to analyse the strength of the body of the new Swift. He starts with the front fascia. For this, he pops open the hoods of both Swifts and closes them with a thud. Judging by the sound of the bonnet closing, he concludes that the new Swift is slightly lighter than the old model. Thereafter, he knocks on the sheetmetal of the front fender and tries to press it with his hands.
Again, after having performed this tactic on both cars, he says that the metal of the new Swift is thinner. He, then, moves on to the door panels. He knocks on them and again presses the sheetmetal. In the case of the new Swift, the metal moves, while it remains stable on the old Swift. To test the strength of the roof, he knocks on it. However, he finds the roof of the new Swift to be a bit more solid than the third-gen model. After repeating the same process for rear door panels and boot lid, he concludes that the extremely high mileage of the new Swift comes from the fact that the body is slightly lighter and perhaps, less safe. In any case, I don’t believe this is the right approach to test the build quality of any car.
Safety of New Maruti Swift
As mentioned previously, the new Swift comes with tons of standard safety features across the range. These include 6 airbags, ABS, EBD, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Hold Assist, ISOFIX Child Seat Mounts, and more. Moreover, the Japanese-spec model secured a decent 4 stars at the JNCAP tests recently. While that model even had the ADAS active safety functions, the Indian model doesn’t have it. Still, it shall be interesting to see the performance of the new Swift at the Bharat NCAP.
Our View
I don’t think that one should draw any conclusions from a video like this. YouTubers often adopt such lunatic methods to ‘test’ the build quality of new cars. Most of such content is geared toward garnering views on social media. For genuine safety tests, authorized agencies like Bharat NCAP are there which have specific procedures in place to test a vehicle thoroughly. Hence, I would like to urge our readers to refrain from concluding anything from such videos. You are free to consume such content just for entertainment. But don’t take anything at face value.
